Finally joined HAMB Bear with me, I am not well-versed, with social networks, older guy here 53. Enjoy reading about members projects. Like older cars 1930-1975 Hot Rods, Customs, Vintage Drag Cars. Events like Cars and Coffee, Drag Racing, Viva Las Vegas. Back in September I bought a 1961 Cadillac coupe Deville that was last registered 1979 and spent the last 43 years in a barn, it starts and drives but needs lots of work. The 390 engine has a ticking noise, lifters? Currently taking the engine apart, going to need at the minimum a new and cam lifters Does anyone know of a good engine builder/machine shop that is familiar with the 390 Cadillac Engines, near the Bay Area Calif ? Or a good source of quality engine parts? Thanks for reading
Please don't start taking it apart. That's how a decent car ends up in the back corner of the garage for 30 years. Have you driven the Caddy enough to loosen up a sleeping lifter?
That’s a very valid concern. I have definitely made those mistakes when I was younger and didn’t have enough money to finish the project. I definitely don’t wanna rip the car apart, just fix the absolutely necessary things so I can drive it. The water pump started leaking and the fuel pump shows low pressure and low flow, going to order some parts so I can rebuild
Did set up a dial indicator to check the cam tonight Lift supposed to be 0.275 And best cam lobe had 0.240 worst one 0.140 Did a Compression earlier and it varied allot 110-180 psi Looking for a good engine machine shop familiar with the 390 Cadillac engine Near the Bay Area Calif
