Worked on it today for about 4 hours. Got the motor trans and rear end fluids changed and got it fired up on a gas can in about 20 minutes. Sounds pretty nice besides the exhaust leaks and has oil pressure for the minute or so that it ran. Pulled the gas tank and radiator out to get cleaned up. Got to order some water pumps and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff to get the brakes working. The floors are the best I've ever seen with not even a pin hole in them. It's already been converted to 12 volt Within alternator conversion of some kind . Overall it's a very nice car and I'm lucky to have got it. 20230109_082129.jpg 20230109_110103.jpg 20230109_082115.jpg 20230109_110057.jpg 20230109_082105.jpg 20230109_110111.jpg 20230109_083108.jpg 20230109_111742.jpg 20230109_111733.jpg 20230109_082143.jpg 20230109_102859.jpg 20230109_082059.jpg 20230109_102849.jpg 20230109_082050.jpg 20230109_102841.jpg 20230109_102831.jpg

  3. A VW 12v generator ? and you were right all the yellow parts underneath make it look speedy :). All you need is a SBC converted dist and drive it........nice score.

I dunno. I'm from North Carolina. Nose up tail down usually got you pulled over by the revenuer looking for a trunk full of white likker.

A question for the Flathead guys. Does the oil pan in this look like the correct one for the swap though it is an 8 ba engine? It's a Center sump and I feel it needs to be a rear sump as I can see where the drag link has touched the pan a couple times from the steering box to the spindle 20230109_082059.jpg

  9. Another positive "great looking car" comment followed by"taildragger" quip. Nothing like a 41' coupe, especially one with character like that.

Well I've got a set of rollers on some 16 inch rims that are 450s and 700s that I might toss on just to see what it looks like. That might not happen till the weekend

I think if you raise the front back up and lower the rear that the drag link to oil pan issue will go away....

You probably right about that Mark and that's probably what I'm going to have to do. And if I ever want to get it in my driveway at home the front's got to come up a little

41 fords make awesome customs.... nose down doesn't really suit them in my humble opinion....

  14. 5-10 bags of cement mix in the trunk is all it needs

I vote taildragger for a '41, but you could set up the suspension to do both and switch it up once in a while.
    • Taildragger with WWW's, skirts.
    • Raked Hot Rod; pull the skirts, swap in the big n little steelies, dump the trunk ballast Anthony spoke of and toss 1.5" of boost in your air shocks.

Well it turns out my water pumps are 49 Mercury only. Perhaps I have a Mercury engine as it has one Mercury head and one 8ba head. Anyways I guess I'll replace them with the truck pumps and the proper motor mount. Seems like this is the common trick for the later Fathead into earlier car

This too may solve your steering interference, but not 100% sure. I think it gently raises the front of the motor...?

Didn't think of that raising or lowering at the motor I better measure cuz I don't have much room between that drag link and the oil pan

Well I just went and measured the old pumps versus new pumps with the cushion mounts and it will end up the same give or take a small bit. Here's a problem though with the car sitting on its own suspension the drag link is sitting on the oil pan. Something's got to be done either raise the front up change to a rear sump pan or drop the steering arms a little bit 16733920288558176530977740279995.jpg

Great score Brian. It found a good home, you know what to do with it. Either way you go I'm sure it will be cool.
I like the short door versions better. I had a short door '47 coupe, it looked just like yours when I got it.

Info for the misinformed. 41-48 cpes short dr cpes had the same roofline, 41-48 long dr cpes had the same roofline. Long door and short door cpes were made 41-48. Other than the front clip, fenders and trunk lids are are the same for both cpes and the convertible. The doors are interchangeable 41-48 between the same body style.
    This is my 41 short door I've owned since 92 41865971_10211995750479585_4574678179318333440_o.jpg 0385 (2) (1).JPG

Thanks. Yours looks to be a great find. I have a rear seat in mine also but if I were to do it over I wouldn't. I would use it more for storage and use a tonneau cover over the area. I used a seat out of a offshore car and cut down the bottom front of the seat frame and the seat back doesn't sit near as high as the one in your cpe.

Well the radiator turned out to be trashed even the tanks were bad. Ended up ordering an aluminum one for a 41 Ford for now. It'll get me down the road. Got some brake parts in and installed and the drums turned on the front. Got the carburetor off and soaking 20230111_153004.jpg 20230111_152950.jpg 20230111_152934.jpg

What a beauty!! It's a good thing for that car that you came along... too many are either left to rot or (gasp) street rodded.

A truck oil pan might be the answer to your tie rod clearance problem.

  28. Not the '41s, see post 32.... Very similar, but not the same. The remainder of the body shell was the same.

Thanks Alchemy but I really have to raise the car up. When they took the leaves out of the top of the pack and put it in the bottom it dropped it so much that everything is bottomed out. Once I put the Springs back where they should be I should be good and then I just need to get it dropped axle, even the panhard bar is bottomed out on the sway bar mount 16735535816001759055982508002998.jpg

Bet that's why someone quit driving it... just as well, you'll make it right!
