Can't believe nobody has mentioned "Low Rider" by War. Hard to choose between that and Commander Cody's version of "Hot Rod Lincoln". But I like every tune mentioned here so far. Kinda like cars, there's whole bunch of them I like. Local radio station played "Transfusion" on their daily worst songs segment, can't say I disagree, but I'm nostalgic for it I guess, as it came out the year I was born. A lot of 50's music was implanted in my psyche from days hanging out with my teenage aunt and uncle. Had to have the 45 of "Beep Beep " to play on my little record player when I was 5. That laid dormant for a while, until I saw American Graffiti and bought the soundtrack on 8 track the next day. The credo for my generation was "sex, drugs, and rock&roll". With me, it was more like "sex, cars and rock&roll." At least I still have cars and rock&roll.

Bucket "T" by Jan and Dean. The Who also did it. Keith Moon was a huge fan of surf and hot rod music and convinced Pete and Roger to cover that song.

The sound of the wind rushing by with the percussion of the open exhaust
or is it that baritone note of a wide open full throttle supported by the flat tappet valvetrain and vocal squealing tires...

coming soon for a live performance on your favorite highway

good one! actually, the group was ike's; one of the chess brothers bought the song and retitled the group.

  8. I had no idea EmmyLou covered the Springsteen Song!

As mentioned before....There is NO actual best car song, but when Bruce released the Darkness on the Edge of Town album with Racing in the Streets on it, I was actually "racing in the streets" & it was an anthem for me, almost like I channeled what I was doing to him & he wrote a song about it!:D

  9. You could use the Ford Flathead firing order: 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2, or not, as you choose. :)

I've built my own stuff so I'm always thinkin' "Flirtten With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet is appropriate.

Wow, a Primus fan on the HAMB? That one surprised me...lol

I can't believe that Little Deuce Coupe isn't mentioned more. It's got (duh) a Deuce Coupe, a hopped up flathead, lyrics that are actually gear head correct (almost unheard of in a song), and racing! To me, it's the perfect vintage gear heads song.

And nobody has mentioned John Bonham's drum solo where he emulates a top fuel dragster. Nobody has every come close to doing anything like that before, or since. Pretty freakin awesome if you ask me.

I'm pretty partial to the Social D version of Maybellene. Chuck Berry's version is a classic.
