I am using a speedway 12 circuit econo wiring harness and a Ford 3G fox body alternator on the SBF install in my 1934 Vicky. Could use the HAMB’s ***istance with the wiring.

Please see photo. The red wire is labeled alternator power and the white is alternator exciter.

Do I show the correct placement for the red alternator power wire?

What does the white alternator be exciter connect to?

What does the alternator yellow/white wire connect to?

What does the green alternator wire connect to?

Do I need to add a ground wire to the alternator in the spot indicated?

    thankyou!

    Thankyou, PotvinV8.

So, if I am reading the instructions to the kit you forwarded correctly……

Yes, I need a ground wire.

The yellow/white alternator wire connects to the red alternator power wire for a constant source of power.

The green alternator wire connects to the white alternator exciter wire for switched power.

A separate heavy 4 or 6 gauge wire needs run from the alternator BAT stud to the battery positive terminal wirh a 150-amp fuse in line or a suitable fusible link.

Do I now have that all correct?

    These might help, or not.

Shouldn't require a ground wire when the alternator is mounted to the engine!

"shouldn't" and real world are often two differenet enneties when it comes to alternators and grounds.
Delco's don't normally need and extra ground wire if you have a clean bare metal path all the way from the alternator, through the mount, though the engine components and on to the body/battery. On the other hand I have seen engines with so much paint and powder coating that unless you s****e it away there is little or no direct ground contact for the alternator or a ground strap for that matter.

That second diagram makes much more sense, you want your remote sensing wire at the solenoid for proper charging.

  8. The first thing I do when I start a rewire job is to make sure the proper grounds are in place. I can't remember one where I didn't include at least a 10 ga ground wire for the alternator. Far less chance of an issue that way.
