Full charge is key with FSI. You can also bump start it if need be.

Yesterday I made the first test drive on the street but I have some serious issues with backfire it does not run smooth at all.
I spend 4 hours on Timing and carburetor... and allways went back to where I startet... I marked the distributor and counted the revolution of the screw.
I have an fsi and a Weber. Has anyone some advice for this setup.
I think its running to rich.. but does this makes the backfires ?

backfiring out the carb or the tailpipe? pull the sparkplugs and have a look see at them to get a rich/lean condition
and I'm going to ask if you've done a compression test?

I'm not real schooled on the Weber but have a buddy that is running one on his banger and as I recall there was a challenge getting the intake to be leak free so that would be another place to look at.

The engine is rebuilt I haven't done a compression test because of that so far.
The plugs are black so really too rich.
Ive orderd smaller main jets, maybe that will help.
The backfires are in the tailpipe not the carburetor .

It revs up ok. But if you hold it a fixed RPM it runs rough and backfires.
The manifold gasket is brand new... I tightend it up again when it was warm.

It has some serious power I went easylie down the road at 50 but runs rough trugh the whole RPM allways a little backfires

Backfiring out the tail pipe sounds like either an ignition or a compression problem.

Based on the plugs and the backfiring out the tailpipe I would agree that it is rich.
According to my buddy, the Weber has 35 primary jets and 40 secondaries. Don't know if you've verified the existing jet sizes
I suspect that you are on the right track with some jetting changes
As for the timing, I know that Nu Rex makes a timing accessory that is mounted on and affixed with the front motor mount. That might be an aid in ultimately setting the timing.
    Carry on

Long story short... I need bigger main Jets although the plugs were black ...because the secondary throttle was not opening correctly....so it ran rich but now as it gets enough air, its too lean.
If I pull the choke 1/3 it revs up perfect.
    ..so I orderd another jets:rolleyes:

Took me nearly 2 days to figure out....

Cool. I’ve always wanted a banger. Sounds like you have a good one and a great setup.

The more I drive the banger, the more i like it, but here in germany its rainy for the last 3 months nearly every day, so it didn' drove so much. Also was working on some other projects!

@Zottel That looks like a real fun RPU! I like this photo of the building with the cars in it. Tell us about it, and maybe some photos of the building. Screenshot_20230122-231348_Gallery.jpg
