Theres always something to zero in on as an art form of it's own as we observe different cars and venues. Something that always caught my eye was the cowl art on early top fuelers. All but gone by the mid to late 60s but in the day I had seen it as unto itself. Seems I remember a topic on it a long time ago, and no I didn't search that. Cars have been found and brought to life, but how about some pics focused primarily on the cowl but the whole body isn't off limits. The 60s drag car lettering topic inspired me to ask. Lookin fwd to it...

The 'rail-jobs' back then, did always carry more of the builders personalities.
At the time my focus dwelt more toward custom street cars.
It was usual that a door slammer had some form or other of a tribute, fantasy being ( creature ? )
These were painted on the lower front fender, ahead of the door.
Some cute, some grotesque, but always original

Looks more like a recent rendering than one from "back in the day"

A clever take-off on an everyday item.

Without derailing the thread, which is a great topic, look at the screw heads around the windshield. That's the level of detail we all need to strive for! Thanks @Pete Eastwood for sharing.

Dammit, they all move me. Is it my imagination or somewhere in the infinity of the www I thought I once had seen a pic of a whole wall of digger cowls. I know I'm not the only nut job that zeros in on this.

  19. From simple to wild, there all great! This is one of the many things that make dragster of the golden era so much better then the current big-show cars.

Don't know why, but this is the first one that pops into my head when this topic comes up.

Couldn't find a pic of just the cowl but this car does it for me.

    Hello,
The “Sour Sisters” FED from So Cal… “It may have been dubbed the "Sour Sisters", but to the legions of Olds fans, its motor was nothing but "sweet" music to their ears.”

    1964 Lion’s Dragstrip

“The so-called "Sour Sisters" A/FD (1961-1964) of Safford-Gaide-Ratican dragster was very successful during its competitive years and one of a handful of Oldsmobile powered fuelers ever. It had a 135" Rod Peppmuller chassis. Engine was a 400" Olds running on 70%, that in its heyday, saw runs as good as 7.88-197.64…” WDIFL

On the initial grand opening day of the original Lion’s Dragstrip Museum in 2017, as anyone walked into the huge warehouse display center, we were greeted with the cool, sleek FED of the “Sour Sisters” sitting in the side of the entry opening. Along with the Batmobile, the Charlie Ettien’s Hemi Powered Painter’s Truck and the Vulcan’s Car Club 32 Vicky Altered…What a way to start the tour…
