I have a 60 gallon craftsman twin that is leaking out of the small pipe that is under the pressure control and goes up to the head. Line is cool. It has some type of unusual plastic fitting that the metal pipe pushes into. How do I fix this thing?

I often wondered about the longevity of a Sharkbite fitting used on plastic in a high vibration environment. They have a 50 year guarantee when used with copper water lines but air compressors are a different animal.
I would find the customer service contact information of Craftsman and describe the condition to them. I've had success several times dealing directly with the manufacturers, where they send out the needed parts with no charge. It's good customer relations that keep them coming back even if out of warranty. Its not time sensitive if just a leak, so send out an email or make a phone call. Just a thought.

That looks like it has been bent. It is going in at a angle. Maybe try to straighten it out and push it in ? JMO

“ shark bite” …..has an O ring to seal around the OD of a tube or pipe and and spring loaded teeth that kinda looks like an open shark mouth to keep the tube in …..just push together and you’re done!!..first one I saw I thought “ jury rig”….but they work well!

I just went through this myself. The one way check valve from the compressor pump to the tank is not sealing properly. This allows air in the tank to back up through the pump when it is idle and the air back flows to the pressure switch. You need to remove the one way check valve and clean it or replace it.

Ok, its not the shark fitting, its leaking up in the pressure regulator. I fiddled a bit with the adjustment and it still leaking. The part is riveted together so I guess I need a new one which will bring me back to the "shark bite" fitting. How will I get the tube out of that for a replacement.

I’m not familiar with ones for steel tubing, but we have some in use at work for plastic, there’s a “ring/collar” on the fitting where the tubing slides in, push it in to release. Couldn’t make one out in your pic, got too blurry for me when I expanded it though.

  15. The ones I've seen are just like an air line fitting, you push in the metal tube, push in the brass ring and while holding in the brass ring you pull out the tube.

Make sure there is no air pressure in the system, lets the line release from the fitting easier!

Well I replaced the regulator with the same brand part my craftsman compressor and while it worked for a while like a week, its back to leaking down to zero again in the same area: where the plastic piece goes up into the regulator. There is like a shaft up in there. Its NOT the pipe that leaking. What gives?

I saw that post about the check valve but i thought it was part of the regulator. Where is the check valve?

The check valve is located in the tank at the end of the discharge tube

When you say discharge tube do you mean the side of the tank where the air hose connects?
