Projects 55 Truck doors

Hi guys, I'm working on my 55.2 Chevy pickup and the driver door is original with the pickup. The pass door is from some other truck, swap meet stuff. The trim panel was off both doors. The pass side has simple 1/4 bolt size, you can see the pass side with a screw in it. The driver side is smaller and I don't know what to look for, any ideas? It's a simple thing but the nearest hardware store is 25 miles away. thanks

Thanks catdad49, my only concern is, they say these fasteners fit from 56 - 66 and my doors have 2 different sizes. Could 55.2 be different than 56?

I did look in the parts book, they show 1/4" for all of them. I'd spend some time looking closely at the nuts in the door, and try my screw collection, perhaps it's a #12 or something?

 

I'm thinking that you either have doors from two different years or from two different plants. Or one was someone's fix for a problem in the past 60 something years.

 

or someone screwed up the threads by using the wrong screws? might be able to fix it with a tap...but be careful

 

That looks like a captured nut so might be able drill and tap to the same size as the larger one (1/4-20).

 

I ended up taking a trip to my hardware store 25 miles away and I knew the approximate diameter, I also figured in 55 they were not using any metric stuff. I got a few different bolts and it turns out the pass side is indeed all 1/4, the driver side is 10-24, all 13 bolt holes fit the 10-24 nicely. The passenger door I bought at a swap meet so I don't know year or anything, just that it fits the cab nicely. Thanks guys.

Thanks 1oldtimer, those look like exactly what is needed. The ad says for 55 only and newer ones are 1/4. That solves my mystery.

 

Sorry I saw the thread too late. My post was just for reference, I didn't know that '55.5 was a different thread size, makes me wonder how many where re threaded over the years.

 

I wonder if the smaller threads were a hold over from earlier trucks? I had a ‘55 3100 once, never dug into it, just bought it because the fella would sell the 3100 emblems off of it, the rest of it went to use in several TF trucks, even the frame to a guy that wanted a short bed.
I’m glad I don’t bet, I’d have lost a small pile of $$ being on the 1/4in side
