Just wondering what size tires you guys are running with your lowered F100?

Just trying to build this thing on paper. Trying to decide what wheel size I need to gather.
In my pipe dream I was thinking 4 -15x7 wheels, just not sure on tire size.

I am thinking big and littles may not look right on this one.

6.70-15's, radials would clash with the canted quads and metalflake paint

That would be closer to a 15x6 wheel then......

  5. What stance?
A slight nose down looks good with a slightly larger rear tire.
Level or tail dragger, same size works

    Oh, I know..... you're predictable. :D

I just don't want the wheel well to look like it's empty. I was thinking a 28-29" tall tire would look right.

    I think they’re 235 x70x 15” rears and 215 x 70 x 15" fronts if I remember.
A little rake on stock suspension. I’ll re-check when I’m in my shop this weekend.

  10. I always default with stocker steel 16s on almost everything that came with 16s.

The 16's do fill up the fenderwell better.

Last one I drove, didn’t own it, just drove it, had L60-15” on 10”x15” wheels on the rear and something like a G70-15” on a 6” x15” wheel. Best I remember they were Ansen Sprint style 5 slot polished aluminum. I remember it had enough torque to smoke those L60’s, and was almost undriveable on wet roads.
This was back in the 1980’s, so it had a 60’s-70’s hot rod vibe to it. Low, loud, and fast, the way we done them. Deep dark maroon paint, tinted windows. Wish I could track it down today, I’d still love to own it.

The reason I was leaning towards one size tire would be carrying just one spare. My tires don't generally ever get very low on tread anyway, (I'm kind of a tire geek) so the chances of needing a spare is pretty slim. But Oklahoma roads sometimes dictate otherwise.

I'm leaning towards a 600-16 right now, but it's still early.

Only thing about running 16’s is that it is much harder to run full wheel covers if that is still your plan. If you are still thinking wheel covers, you might run something like a 710-15 to fill up the wheel wells but have wheels that would accept the covers.

I think I may end up running steelies with 47 Ford caps. I am predictable if nothing else. I do have about 12, 54-55 Olds caps though.

Won’t those “hotrod” hubcaps clash with The canted quads and metalflake paint???

I hate wire wheels....with a p***ion. They remind me of the stockyards pimp.

I was thinking either the Ford center caps or the Chrome spiders.

I wondered about running wheel covers on a daily, but might argue that they are actually easier to maintain than other alternatives after Silas has been running the Merc caps on the Edsel in all kinds of weather daily for the last several months. :D I might agree that wires would be a PITA to run on a daily if you wanted to keep them clean.

I wouldn't run wires if they were self cleaning! It's probably from the Tru-spoke era, where I developed my hate for them. I would run a full cap, I just need to decide if I wanna do that.

I kinda like the idea of shiny black steel wheels with Chrome spider caps with WWW all the way around. I like the 1959-62 era, but it is gonna replace my daily, so easy is best.

My Dads 1956 F-100 came with 6:70 x15 inch tires. He took the hub caps and rings off our 1949 Mercury and put on the pickup! Looked great! Hell , it still looks great , setting in the barn!

Edit: It is the same color as the truck below!

I think this rubber rake is about perfect, but the whole thing is about perfect. Paging @Chris for details, but I believe the fronts are 6.70-15s. I didn't see the rear size listed in his build thread.

If you are using stock 16’s, the size and stance on the F-Head/Malcolm truck can not be beat! Only improvement would be if the wheels were chrome too.

  29. If that's the case then you could find some rare 16" Lyon full caps :). If you want to be real odd find some small vintage aftermarket caps of a different make....the aftermarket ones that have the make emblem that's kinda close but just not right.

Or get later outside bump 16x5 wheels and use 50s car caps. My old '54 panel had later 16s with '51 car caps....but it wasn't lowered.

  30. I've lost track in my head of the exact size but I could go look. That is a 31" tall 15" T-A sport radial on the Yard Donkey. I always thought it filled up the opening very well.
