I realize this is a needle in a haystack, but if you don't try you never know. My family owned a 1940 Ford Deluxe coupe with a Hemi. In 2011 its location was known. The person whom knew its whereabouts has passed away and I'm trying to find it. Here is what I can tell you about it 1. Originally a green car that was painted white at the time it was sold 2. It was sold in about 1960 to a guy with the last name of Stratton 3. At the time it was sold it had a 57 Dodge hemi with the stock transmission/rearend. 4. At the time it was sold the interior was stock. 5. It was a Business coupe. 6. Its rumored to have been in Oregon in around 2011, but I cannot confirm this. 7. In 2011 it was supposedly sitting rusting into the ground with chokecherry, bosenberry, etc basically some kind of bushes around/growing through it. 8. It had a 1" recessed firewall. 9. Possibly having "Special Deluxe" or "Super Deluxe" emblems on it 10. It is rumored to be still owned by someone with the last name of Stratton, but I cannot confirm this. Again I realize its a long shot but if this sounds familiar to anyone let me know. Thanks
The general area it was last seen in and the color of what was left of the paint would help along with any other identifying mods other than the Hemi. I've always figured that it might be best to just keep the as it was memories because I know of a few local cars including my 51 Merc that got changed quite a bit by the later owners. The Merc could be fixed by a wheel and tire change and sending the bumpers off to be chromed and otherwise it leads a pampered life. A couple of others in the area didn't fare so well.
Just bumping the post. Sorry I don't have pictures. Basically if you just picture a white 1940 ford deluxe coupe, sitting lower in the front because of the added weight of the hemi, you've got it.
A more precise location than ‘Oregon’ might help - what town/city? And you say last sold in 1960 - that is a long time ago........but location was known in 2011. A bit confusing.
Okay, I'll explain some more. 1. This was my wifes grandfathers car. 2. It was sold to a uncle of one of his friends. 3. His friends last name was Stratton, so I'm assuming the uncles last name was stratton as well, but of course it wouldn't have to be. 4. My wifes grandfather has kept in touch with his friend over the years. The friend is the one who knew its location in 2011. His friend has since passed away along with the knowledge of where it is. 5. The friend lived in the northern part of Oregon along the coast. Since its location was known by him in 2011, either its in the general area he lived or is still owned by a family member/friend that could be very well be living anywhere in the US.
4. "My wifes grandfather has kept in touch with his friend over the years. The friend is the one who knew its location in 2011. His friend has since passed away along with the knowledge of where it is". Nice friend ... tells your gramps he knows where it is but won't/doesn't tell him the location ... sigh I would guess that if it was close they could/would/might have gone to see it so ... it may not be anywhere local.
I was in Oregon once, didn't see the '40 though. Also didn't see any girls in bikinis for that matter. Saw some girls in flannel, nothing to write home about.
My wife's grandfather loves old cars, loves telling stories, and he has a lot of great memories with that 40 ford. As far as why he didn't try to track the exact whereabouts back in 2011, I can't answer that. I realize this is a needle in a haystack, but if you throw out the particulars 1. At one time had a hemi, so even if the hemi is long gone it will have different motor mounts. 2. the 1" recessed firewall. 3. In 2011 ish it was sitting unrestored rusting into the ground with bushes growing around it 4. Business coupe 5. Possibly having "Special Deluxe" or "Super Deluxe" emblems on it 6. Most likely it will have old green and/or white paint on it. it should narrow it down quite a bit
You might run an ad in North Coast or Portland area craigslist.....another long shot, just keep shooting.
