Customs kb5 windshield frame

    i'm trying to split the 2 piece windshield frame on a 46 international kb5 truck . the screws have all broken off or been removed . but the upper and lower pieces will not separate . can it just be the urathane glueing them to the gl*** , or am i missing something . i've tried softening the goop with a heatgun but to no avail .

    If I remember correctly, there are 90 degree corner metal pieces that go into each side of the frame. The broken off screws go through the frame and into these pieces. They get very rusted into the frame and are a ***** to get out. Lots of PB Blaster in the seam between the frame pieces, and where the broken off screws were. If you are not saving the gl***, bust it out and use a hammer and wood block to drive the frame apart.

    On You Tube there is a guy going by Bare Knuckle Binder who has a video on wind shield rebuilding for KB TRUCKS. Very good detail.

    i've watched his video . very good but he has none showing the take apart . BJR , thanks . its what i suspected . i've started hitting it with kroil . maybe i'll put a bit of heat too it as well . i'm hoping to save one piece of gl*** for a template .

    You can lay a piece of hard wood like oak or maple flat on the gl*** against the frame and hit the wood block to beat the frame apart. Thus saving the gl***.

    i oiled the **** out of it over 4 days and what finally worked was putting a chisel between the top and bottom joins on the side and just getting irresponsible with a hammer . done . and i saved one piece of gl*** for the gl*** template . woo hoo .

  7. I just did this last fall on my K1. As far as gl*** goes, I got mine from e-bay I think it was only $200 or so, I say only because what do you get for $200 anymore. But just buying the gl*** that way will keep you from needing a pattern, My gl*** fit fine. And I don't think you can get the gl*** out without breaking it.
    Anyway, getting to the frame, I don't remember having any trouble getting it apart. Just remove the six screws two on each end and the two in the center strip. then knock it apart, my gl*** broke but as I had new gl*** that was no problem. Maybe penetrating oil and or heat would help but rest ***ured there is no "trick" or hidden screws, just the ones you see.
    This brings us to the weather stripping around the outside, I got mine from Restoration Specialties in Pa. $40 or so I think. This was not easy to put in but I stuck with it and it came out ok.

    gl*** cut here will be $40 per side . bobs cl***ic auto gl*** has both pieces for $110 usd . and i got the seal from southland international in lethbridge alberta for not much money . coming along .

  9. $40 per side is a great price. maybe another approach would be to make a gl*** pattern from that hard pressed board if the gl*** brakes removing it from the frame.
