Got a '42/'48 Ford open drive transmission saddle (21c). I have three different speedo gears. 01Y-71 A18 B19 - gears. E22- What is the difference. Calibration???
That 01Y is the basic part prefix...suffix would be different for each gear. They can be most easily ID'd by those tooth numbers. What rear gear and tire size are you running? That determines right tooth count, which is charted in the catalog by rear ratio and tire size. If your tire size is not an original type, you need to translate it into outside diameter and compare with OD of tires in the chart
OK...cogs are going to be well off the chart for Ford speedo gears. Chart is going to stop at 3.54, and nothing for a 3.00 with big tires was ever made in any early Ford flavor. You are going to need a ratio converter gear box to get this right, and can probably start just as easily from any of your gears. I'll look up and post a page that tells you how to figgerout what you need. I think the highest gear setup in your list will translate to 3.78 with smaller 16 when I dig out the chart. Gear chart is in the speedo 17,000 area of the '28-48 parts ***ulation.
You'll have to see if threads fit, but lower end of early Ford speedo cable is a common size, so probably. You can just count revolutions as that website descrbes and order a correcting box fo regular speedo, though. You will need the ratio box for a normal speedo because no original gears exist for your high drive ratio.
Can I ask what your 01Y-71 E22 part came out of? I have a 1951 Ford F1 I purchased 3rd of 4th hand. This is the same speedometer gear but the '51 Ford F1 speedometer cable doesn't work with it. Hoping if I find what vehicle this ****** and gear came out of I may be able to use that speedometer cable on my truck or figure a way to Frankenstein something.
I know that this is a VERY old thread, but NOBODY answered the OP's question. The differences between them are the number of teeth on the gear, in his case 18, 19, and 22 teeth.
