Mine is now a sedan again. Started the build as a 28 tudor then swapped the roadster body on on 30 tudor. 20220511_131523.jpg 20220510_190825.jpg 20190531_181710.jpg 20150708_130456.jpg Same chassis 3 different bodies. ADHD.... HAHA!

I added the fenders and running boards after running it as a highboy for 18 years. IMG_0259 (1).JPG

    Hello,

By the Summer of 1957, my brother had his sights set on a Model A Coupe we found in our neighbor’s backyard. So, the purchase was done and we got the Model A Coupe home with a long tow rope. Now, the idea of a finished Model A Coupe with an SBC motor and it being fast enough to compete with the Oldsmobile powered 1934 Ford 5 window coupe of his teenage friend was becoming a reality.

The reality was that if we finished the Model A Coupe, then, the Pale Yellow 51 Oldsmobile sedan would have nowhere else to go, except to me, the little kid brother. I was going on 14 and could already drive, so, to me, it was a natural. I would gladly take this hand me down.

It all happened so fast in the late Summer…

When my brother had his idea of building a hot rod/drag racing car in 1957, he wanted something to be competitive with his friend that had a big Oldsmobile motor in a 1934 black Ford 5 Window Coupe. That black coupe was a daily driver and at Lion’s Dragstrip, took home trophies in the A/Gas class. My brother’s car, a 51 Oldsmobile sedan was fast, but he felt it was not fast enough to stay with the modified 34 coupe.

So, he latched on to the idea of a modified Model A coupe and it would be his daily driver/weekend drag racing coupe. A 283 SBC motor, a LaSalle transmission and Chevy Positraction rear end were going to be the main components. He was also toying around with information from Reath Automotive staff about a stroked 283 including a bore, to make the SBC a 352 c.i. motor with 3 carbs. They said it would be a strong runner at the drags and a relatively smooth daily driver to school and work.

That was music to my ears, as I thought the result of the complete Model A build was not going to me, but I would be the recipient of the cool lowered 51 Oldsmobile sedan. Good luck on that one…

This new photo of a daily driver Model A with a SBC power would have been a good result of my brother’s original idea. A strong, powerful, daily driver and fast weekend racer at the drags. The Orange color was in the color range, but, Red was the chosen color. This current daily driver had all of the “goodies” that would have been on our Model A build if it had taken place. The one thing would have been lack of room inside, for our cruising needs and it would only be for two teenagers.

But, after seeing this orange Model A Coupe with some cool flames recently, this would take its place in our hot rod/drag race build ideas notebook. If we still talked into our old late night conversations, these days as old folks, this one below would be scrutinized and selected over the earlier one we both saw at the same time, later in 1959. At least, my wife and I would have fit inside, but our granddaughter and/or son would not fit. So, there is that.

The one with the flames just had a stronger dual purpose look with the American Racing Equipment 5 Spoke Wheels and appropriate tires. YRMV

  13. Well... here's my '29 pickup.

Hey... don't blame me, you asked for Model A's with fenders and running boards and that's all you're getting from me this morning. :p

Shit, the thing was probably running and driving when this thread was started. :p
