Anybody who's ever worked with the Ironheads knows about Hillside washers ;)

Screw the damned beveled/wedge ****. If you have access to the nut on the other end of the bolt to tighten it, why not just grind a bevel on the underside of the bolt head?

I have made them using a threaded eye bolt, grind it to the desired angle weld on a flat washer or front end shim and cut the threaded/handle off.

Ok, someone's gotta' ask and it looks like it's me.
Why is the bolt at that angle?
Could the problem be rectified by correcting the alignment of the holes?

  7. I had to read you twice but I think I got what your meaning.
So center drill a half-inch deep hole the same size as the bolt shank on the end of a square bar, round bar, or hex bar. Then baloney slice (chop saw) your "angle washer" off at whatever slope you have determined. 2 simple steps and you're done.

Seems like it would be much easier to just take a drive to the hardware store!

Beveled washers are what I used to tighten down mismatched flanges on my 292 Chevy six. Worked great, and look good.

McMaster Carr also sells 2 piece washers, one side convex the other concave, for uneven surfaces. I have purchased a few 3/8” and they work great. The ones I purchased were hardened and coated black.

Is this the matter that two holes don’t line up for a nut and bolt? Or is there something that threads into that is not correct?

If you have a truck alignment shop in town, they pull tapered shims from under the front springs when doing a caster change. We kept the discards in a five gallon pail. See if they have one with the degree taper you need and you’re in business. The OE used steel on Pete’s, KW and FTL.

they're used with I beams. the legs of I beams are tapered so the wedge washer makes the bolt straight into the hole.

  18. We fixed this bolt yet?
