Where would you buy the chrome made in England Genuine Stromberg 97? They seem to be out of stock everywhere. I have heard they are being remade again. Should I have a really tight grip on my wallet?
I had to wait awhile to get my order, I don't think those carbs are always in stock. If you really want them, place an order so you get them when they become available.
They are out of stock likely because Clive is taking them out of the Stromberg catalog. Evidently the chroming process in England is not all that. The plating is peeling and causing a lot of complaints. Just a couple of days ago Clive wrote me that 3 new 97 bodies were on their way to me. I am going to take them to my chrome shop and have them plated properly. It is more expensive to do it this way and it takes more time, but it will be correct when done.
I was wondering what was going on with these chrome carbs. If the chrome is peeling then they have been improperly plated to begin with. To make these carbs cost effective I'm guessing that perhaps the initial copper coating has been altered or the nickel coating was eliminated. This is not great news, I really would like a pair of chrome Stromberg 97's.
Hot rodders have been known to chrome plate some stuff that probably shouldn't be plated... LOL It's really hard to get plating into depressions and recesses on complex parts without elaborate fixturing, and even then it may not work. I learned this the hard way. I'm not surprised he's had plating issues on the main bodies. Good luck on the re-plate...
Sherm's Plating in Sacramento sent me four 97's for Brizio's makeover of the Kookie Kar. The BEST potmetal chrome plating in the whole Milky Way.
