As everyone is aware, Glide and Wise Guys 40 Ford seat frames are extremely hard to find. 15-20 weeks back order. Looking for something that would fit, be comfortable, and not cost a mortgage to have upholstered with some new interior. Any suggestions/recommendation are GREATLY APPRECIATED !

I have an original 40 Ford 5 window coupe seat. This is the seat that the backrest lifts up to access the storage space under the package shelf. The seat is covered in vinyl and tweed. The seat bottom springs were broken and replaced with plywood and foam. All of the tracks are with it along with the floor mounts. Problem is I am in FL and not sure what the shipping would cost. I have some pictures if you would like to see the seat.

Glide and Wise Guys are overrated.

I tried to buy the original seat out of my 40 Merc coupe at auction when I bought the car. I quit bidding at $200 since I didn’t know if I would buy the car. Anyway, dummy me missed out on the seat and then ended up with the car...

The small bench seats from a Ford Ranger extended cab pickup work great. 60/40 configuration with a small armrest built in. I've used this seat several times. Getting a bit harder to find but they're out there in the wrecking yards.

When I bought my 40 Standard it came with the stock seat with the lift up back. I wanted a split back stock 40 coupe seat and it took a lot of searching to find an actual original coupe seat that someone would part with. Finally a really nice one that was removed from a running hot rod became available for a trade plus cash At the time I couldn't even find a sedan seat. Good ones are hard to find.

^^^ this but I prefer a stock seat split back as he said over aftermarket ones--have done many 40"s

  11. I’ve been looking for a ‘36 to ‘40 seat either the flip back or split locally for a little while. Stock seat are hard to find, since a lot get replaced and tossed.

What is the difference between a coupe split back seat and a sedan split back seat?

I think the sedan seat has some type of foot rest under the back edge?

Yes, that is correct about the sedan seat. My coupe has a 2 door sedan seat split back, I cut the rear foot rest off works great

..Same here, but I left the foot rest in place 'cause I thought it was cool, though useless....You can barely see the footrest on this Sedan seat that I used.

I have a complete 40 coupe/sedan seat but it needs everything and 1 back frame has a crack that needs a weld. The money shot is the adjuster mechanism is intact and works perfect, and also has the side skirt and rear footrest tins in great shape. The no money shot is I'm in MI and not headed that direction any time soon.

I'm using a 2-dr '40 sedan seat in my '40 coupe. The sedan seat spring has the foot rest mounts, and is the only difference from a '40 business coupe split back seat that I know of.
I decided to use wood and foam instead of the spring ***embly for better comfort. IMG_1052.JPG

I also have a 40 5w coupe seat completely dis***embled . I would do as V8Bob suggested; use foam on the bottom cushion(no spring) and the stock springs on the back. Since it is apart, Fastenal might be pretty reasonable. PM me if interested.

I have the original seat out of my 40 coupe. Lift up back. Original seat back springs and plywood/foam bottom cushion. All of the tracks and mounts work fine. 9BA6DBCB-1E4D-4F7B-87C5-CE1A37991E15.jpeg D493D328-EC84-4E38-95BB-59CB8B3323DD.jpeg

Pretty sure that someone would want the middle seat from an Astro/Safari van. The middle seat is narrower so p***engers can get by to the 3rd row seat. I'm looking for a temporary seat to put in my '40 Ford, and happened to run across this thread.

  24. I recently bought a split back 40 seat from a member on here up in Northern Michigan. I live just out of Portland
Oregon. He put it on a pallet and dropped it at a shipping dock. I air freighted it through Freight Pros in and thought $430.oo was a steal deal. Shelby at 888-297-6968 made it painless. All she needs is footprint, weight and Zip code to Zip code. This seat with Mega Pallet was 160 lbs. Starting with anything that needs structure work or missing parts as well as upholstery would have cost me 3 times the freight. This is a bolt in and go seat. Get off your wallet and make it easy on yourself. Here's the seat I ended up with for less than 1K. I'm mega happy! Yes, it's all about the look.

I'm borrowing this old thread. I have a 1940 Ford Coupe. Would a front seat from a 1939 Chevy 2 door sedan fit in my car?

39 Chevies had a lot of wood framework in the seat base, and it’s prone to cracking. I had one, and needed to brace it with steel to make it work. As for fitting in a 40 Ford, I don’t know. I never measured it.
