I am currently building a '61 Falcon drag car so it has motivated me to research and find vintage pictures of 1960, 1961, 1962, and 1963 round body Ford Falcon drag cars as they were raced back in the 60's. Here's some of what I've found so far. If anyone else has vintage photos of round body Falcon drag cars or g***ers, please post them here.

Those are great pictures Casey. I really like the "Jodge and Mowry" car. Speaking of pictures, would love to see more of the car in your avatar!

I have grown to really like the early Falcons. They make neat 60's style dirt roundy rounds too .

This my Dad's car around 1966 or so. Taken at York US 30. We still have the hood from this photo. It was replaced later on with a fibergl*** hood. I'd love to build a replica one day using the hood. We have no idea where the car went.

  13. There used to be one that raced at Half Moon Bay (when I was really little) that was like a Pre-Bolt Falcon version of a Thunderbolt. I remember thinking about that Falcon and the Thunderbolt when I was in Junior High and was sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ford copied it when they started making the bolt. :D

The shock towers make running anything but a small block a pain in the ****. You absolutely have to build a front sub frame ( at the very least) and an axle or some sort of robbed independent suspension. I am sure that the shock towers can not be altered enough to run an FE in one.

This is my old Falcon. Not a vintage picture ,but done up like back in the day. 10 % set back 289 4speed . Pontiac rear . Remember a 63 Falcon that ran at Miami-Hollywood that had a 427 side oiler. It ran B/Gas. 1020131317.jpg

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg This is not exactly what you were looking for, but in my youth we could drive over to Romy Hammes Ford in South Bend and see this race team cars sitting on the car lot.

"Quit Falcon Around"; seems that was lettered on a lot of Falcon drag cars. Even I had a 63 Falcon Ranchero once! Lots of Falcon drag cars up in this corner of the States. There are a few running in the local brackets. 40 years or so ago, there was The Little Boss Truck; Falcon Ranchero done up as a g***er, low to the ground, axle at the front, and injected "Boss" power, but I don't remember exactly what engine it was. That car bounced around for sale over the years. A 63 Falcon hardtop with a BBC, "Dr. John"-John Bertoldi(Sp?); I don't think he was a Dr. however. Currently there's Quick Trip, a black, 60-63 2 door sedan with a 460. A former Division 6 NHRA Director ran a 64-65 before the NHRA job. Had a friend who built one with a Ford 300 six, 4 speed, and a 9 inch. We found out the way to get tall/skinny wheels on the front for cheap, was to find a couple of Nash Rambler 4 bolt rims. I know of a couple squirreled away in garages that will probably never get finished. Light weight, good lines, and simple design. It's only been the last few years that they finally quit making them down under. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Here in the Portland area about 1971 I hung around with a bunch of Ford Guys, one of them had this ugly frog green 61, had a wicked 221 and a T-10 with long 2x3" rect tubing traction bars welded to the 9 inch rearend end. It wasn't much to look at and I don't remember it being much of a quarter mile car but it was quite the little street terror.

Good catch on 15 cent burger sign in background. Fries were 12 cents and a coke was a dime.

Growing up in a small Oregon town in the mid 60's, there was a mom and pop burger/ice cream shop, could get sloppy joe burgers 5/$1.00.

  27. Thanks for posting this photo. I haven't seen the Hal and Steve Thomas falcon in years. I believe they ended up with a blown FE Ford in A/GS for a while trying to compete with SWC and Big John.

Doug, you surely remember "Whiz Burger"? They used to have specials; 10 burgers for $1. Of course that was when you could get 10 loaves of (not so great) bread for $1 too!
