I have on my truck the battery sits u dee the p***enger seat. I want to keep it there. But if I break down the seats are in the way. And I don’t like putting a metal sheet over the battery. It’s a safety thing. But can mount it in the bed but then it’s in the open. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Well a short answer would be to use a Battery Box such as they sell for holding a boat's battery to protect it and fasten it in the bed.

do like a modern cars with a remote battery. Run a set of cables to a place outside the cab like under the hood or at the rear bumper area. mount them to isolated lugs and then you have a remote jump point. there are several modern vehicles with the battery hidden away in a hard to get to place and they all have jumpstart terminals under the hood

I had a battery under the floor for many years. The sheet metal cover was made large enough that it wouldn't fall into the battery hole.

i fought with this for a minute.
    tryin to find the answer.
i ended up putting my batteries under my bed in a sealed box.
im going to make some leads and mount this somewhere hidden.
another connector like it connects to it with jumper cables on the other side

Get a smaller battery that will take up less space. My car has a lawn tractor battery. You don't need a whole bunch of cold cranking amps for an occasional nice weather cruiser.

I have one of the small dry cell batteries under the seat of my truck. It mounts flat on its side with the terminals on the side. You can see how I mounted it here:

It's not clear to me what your concern is...I ***ume by break down you mean dead battery? If so, I don't know why having to lift up the seat to hook up your jumper cables is that big a deal. Otherwise, you can install remote terminals under the hood or somewhere else handy.

Who's in charge of this decision? Are you positive a negative result will occur? It's possible this topic can be a generator of alternate ideas. You just have to be grounded and an open mind to get ideas for your current situation. Members get amped up when it comes to certain things and it can be tough to cut out thru the field like old regulators. Still, you should be able to reach a terminal solution.

    That was good !:D

But back to the issue at hand .

I would mount the battery hidden in a battery box with terminals exposed somewhere to ***ist in boosting the truck .

    lots of different options .

Putting it in the bed is fine as well a battery really does not care if it’s exposed. It would be more of a looks thing or taking up space in the bed then detrimental to the battery .

Batteries have been put under the floors of vehicles for years, probably since they first started putting them in to run things like ignition, lights, and a starter instead of relying on just magneto for the ignition. As long as it’s in a secure place I don’t have a problem with it. Our new to us Jeep Grand Cherokee has it’s battery under the p***enger seat under the floor, with jump off lugs under the hood. Pa in law had a Caddy a few years ago with the battery under the back seat. Only problem I see would be in the event of an electrical fire and you needed to disconnect the battery real fast, but you can put an shut off switch in the cables to do that if needed.

There’s worse decisions in life than putting the battery below the floor, like **** hanging below the scrub line, but that’s another discussion….

Take the advise you have been given. Battery placement is not rocket science.

The polarizing look she made when her favorite toy didn’t work because the batteries were placed incorrectly.

  19. Sometimes I think these kinds of questions are posted just to build a larger post count. Come to think about it, that's the only reason I post on them!

  20. This ^^^ is more than doable. I had the battery inside a large print setters box in the bed of my C10. It was not visible to the general public and I could lock the box (it also held my jack and various tools). Where I live a battery out in the open is fair game.

You can put the battery under the bed, I have done that in several trucks. You build a battery box off the side of the frame and a trap door in the bed.

All that said the GIMP has the simple answer.

Both my 36 Chevy and my old 36 Ford have the battery under the floor on the p***enger side, never had an issue. Several times I've had to jump the Chevy because of a depleated charge, just hooked the cables or charger to the alternator lug and ground. Fired right up, no issue. Put it under the floor with a removeable panel and fuggetabou***.

Jump from the back of the alternator!?

  23. That works. I have put the cables on the lug on the starter before. Not easy on everything we drive but the alternator or the genny is normally right out in the open. Good idea.

I would not, except to open the doors on a car with shaved handles.

I had a friend who was charging the battery under the p***engers seat,in his BuickThis was in a garage under his house. Seat fell down across battery and nearly burnt the house down. Use a plastic battery
    box with cover.

Yes, I would not pull starter current through the alternator wire, unless it looks like a battery cable.

  28. Wouldn't this be the equivalent of a 10 gauge jumper cable? I agree and wouldn't go there.

Remove the battery altogether and just push start it.
    You’re welcome.

Modern batteries are maintenence free. So put them where ever you like. I have used anderson connectors to plug in a remote battery if i need to jump start.
