I’m so pumped to have been featured today on the front page! Made my day/month. What a clever and well worded write up by the author. I believe his name is Ryan. Thank you!

  8. Incredible workmanship and I have to say, this car is loaded with attitude!

I live in the east where we get precipitation year-round, so louvers would never work back here for a daily driver. But they do add a bit of land speed record or dry lakes authenticity.

Thanks for the support! Yes it’s very nice out here in Utah to be able to just keep cars in bare metal and not worry about surface rust. Makes things a lot easier.

  12. Nice. Very racy. Thanks for sharing the progress pictures. Are you planning to run it at The lakes?

Hoov, your build has re-opened some doors that lead to the "WHY NOT?"
Some years of experience here, but this job is over the top. Makes me not want to stall around...
Thanks! Pictures are A+, all of them riveting. Kick-started me on my slicing and dicing project.

Thanks for the kind words Mike! I kinda just took the attitude if it doesn’t look or feel right just keep cutting away. Really interested to see what it will look like painted now.

Thanks for the great thread. I’m along way off building a US 5w and I’m in Australia. Have 34 cowl 5w doors, new quarter panels and a few other parts. I’m going to need dimensions for building 1/4 windows and back window. Going to build body with a 6” chop. Would really appreciate some help, maybe a template for windows with measurements. Just a pic would. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to seeing yours finished.

quick update, was able to pretty much finish up the the back corner. Just have some touch up welds to grind down. C9BC6FC6-5115-407A-99EA-FE1C45884B17.jpeg Getting started on the other side. The damage to the top corner above the quarter window was original. Leaded over by the factory. I’ll have to go back over it with some lead at some point.

You know what I don’t know why that didn’t even cross my mind. The lead work was done really well I just assumed it was factory. It very well could’ve been an old fix. Don’t point these things out to me because now I might have to cut it out and fix it rather than lead it. Haha

little more work getting done on the drivers side. This side was a little more difficult to get a nice finish on because of all the previous patches that were done to it. B67799C7-5E89-4633-AA30-5323871C392D.jpeg 9270DC76-D489-4441-B7A9-1D12FE444D3E.jpeg 603E1BCA-BD11-4CD0-9EA1-24A6D663F78E.jpeg decided to cut out the inner structure temporarily to be able to have access to the weld that goes across the top. This way I can planish it. 28D6AA04-D9F0-4D48-94FB-E1AE06E4120C.jpeg 59A45CB4-6AA9-4410-837F-CBBE9BE05A9F.jpeg D4475C63-C536-471B-B455-6135B9020773.jpeg 064D2BE1-A909-481F-A59A-1EA175713ABA.jpeg 330B0387-097C-48FB-947C-CDE4D50833E4.jpeg 509616C2-B11D-4AD9-A629-04430A378D37.jpeg
I welded up the cut above the drip rail as well. Just have the other side to do. I’ve been brainstorming on how to do the door tops correctly and the least invasive way possible.

    Looks like very clean metalwork.

What's the crazy looking sports car on the rack behind the coupe?

Hello, thought I would give a little update on the progress. Here I am patching heavily rusted area at the bottom of the windshield.

To be honest I brainstormed how to do this and this is what I came up with. I’ve never seen it done before . I wanted the the bottom corner of the window to have a radius but not a long radius. I like the look of a sharper radius on the bottom corner.

I had to cut the windows to open them up and line the door gaps up.

Both sides done. This side I went crazy on the pie cuts and it was a mistake. I had originally cut that many from the previous chop that I was going to do. Just trying to make it work.

Filling in door gaps to get them at least close. Nothing too perfect until it’s all welded up. Things tend to move around when getting heated up.

filling in where the hinges were. I guess this is the most pictures I can post at a time so I will post another with more progress.

working on gaps. I had to add quite a bit in areas. I also had to cut some inner structure to tilt the passenger side window in just about a quarter inch to get it to sit correctly. And flow with the b pillar.

this is a part I think stylistically a lot of guys get wrong. I like the way it looks when the bottom of the a pillar flows with the lines of the door. I made a little piece to correct that.

here it is for the other side as well. Ok that’s it for now. Thanks for following along. I still have so much work to do. Its all of the small monotonous things. But those are the things that make it look good. I hope!
