Recently I had posted in search of a vendor for a front disc brake conversion for my '56 Monterey station wagon. Jamco was the only company that offered a a disc conversion that worked with stock 56 Merc 5 on 5 wheels. After a long wait , I took delivery the other day. Installation was glitch free..... until I re-mounted the sway bar. One side was slightly bent and interfered with the caliper. I managed to straighten the bar. On the second try, I found that the sway bar was actually preventing full turning radius of the wheels. Short of a custom sway bar, it looks like I'm stuck. Suggestions will be most welcome.
Did it restrict your turning with the drums? You can also try with longer or shorter stand offs. I went to 3/4” shorter ones on Ford by accident during the purchase of a new set for a different vehicle. Your parts look good so only longer/shorter bolts and sleeves may work for you.
Hi , I would try mounting the calipers on the back side of the spindle. I have sold a lot of these kits and installed them, to the rear of the car. Make sure the bleeder is pointing upward. Hope this helps. Dave
Dave your right I didn’t notice it. I’ve never seen the calipers to the front on any kit. Mine are to the rear.
Guys, The majority of aftermarket brake kits install the calipers to the rear. Some factory cars like Mustang, Falcon, Comet had calipers on the front. I am wondering if the gentleman that is putting this kit on saw on the caliper that it said right and the bleeder was pointing up, and that's where it went. The calipers can be moved from side to side as long as the bleeder is pointing up. I would like to say thanks to you guys for the kind words. Orangedog 56 long roof Dos Cincos Jimmy 6
Thanks for the help fellows. Not sure how or why I didn't see the correct mounting position . All is good now .
