Folks Of Interest Rob Markworth joins the Shifters So.Cal. at GNRS

A big congrats to Rob Markworth for getting in the Shifters Saturday night at the Suede Palace Awards. he was stunned, semi speechless, and it was a great moment for all involved.

Rob is someone that we've known for over 3 decades. A great Hot Rod builder, has gone 300 MPH at Bonnneville in a Lakester, and holds an NHRA License to drive a Top Fuel Funny Car. To date, he has taken the "War Horse" up to 250 MPH in the 1/4 mile. A positive guy that will be an asset to the club. Pictured below is his black Model A Coupe on Deuce Rails, powered by a built 392 Hemi.

That was a really great moment, congrats to Rob!

 

Rob said to me after all that happened “that was a surprise, did you know” I said hell yes I knew, all week long. Sarcastically he said “well, thanks for the heads up buddy” I told him if I told him then it wouldn’t have been a surprise!!! It was better this way!!!!

It truly was a once in a lifetime experience.
I’m happy to have been there and be a part of it.

Sounds like a plan. His A Bone is FAST , and equally cool. Chopped 5 inches, sittin' on Deuce Rails, '40 dash, '55 Chevy rear with 3.55 posi, etc. etc.

 

He should consider it for sure...there's a pretty large array of members here that he can chat with that do the land speed stuff, drags and of course good ole Hotrods and Customs...yeah I'll bet it's fast...

So being a big fan of the Shifters C.C. I got to witness a special moment Saturday night inside of the famous Suede Palace. The “Shifters” have been around a long long time and is what all other car clubs are inspiring to be. They brought in a new member on stage and that is just something that just doesn't happen. The camaraderie between all the clubs was high and heavy that night and I'm glad that I was there to be apart of it.

 

Congratulations Rob!! I would call this a "high end pick" I look forward to heading south and meeting you and seeing the rest of your group again. Sooner than later!!

I more of a "Shiftless" kind of guy... Can someone give a brief history of the Shifters and why it is so appreciated? Thanks.

 

I think there’s a documentary that will be publicly available soon but if you want the cliff notes they were at the forefront of the 90’s rebirth of traditional hotrodding and made quite an impact.
