we need help finding a speedometer cable for this speedometer. the threads are on the inside. an adapter to use a modern speedometer cable would be ideal. we haven't been able to identify the brand. it has no hole in the back for a light. thanks for your help. Looks like an early Model A connection.

  4. Looks similar to 47 Ford speedometer. I had my cables made by @e1956v, great service. First one had Ford transmission, 2nd one was GM, both built to connect the 47 speedo.

No way I can touch that price from Dennis Carpenter, my fittings cost that much.

I'll second that. I've had one of his cables running my old Wings speedo for many years & it hasn't missed a beat.

I've found the "store bought" cables to be slightly smaller in diameter and will sometimes slip or wobble when spinning.ive got a local gauge repair man that makes cables.they are correct every time

  13. "Stock" cables are okay, but if you need a different end on the transmission, custom is needed. There is no hole for a single light, but it looks light slots around the back edge of bezel where cluster lighting will infiltrate the housing.

Another plug for Rusty. He made the cable for the AOD in my '54 Ranch Wagon.

Years ago I built a 29 Ford sedan that was a complete car when I got it. I disconnected the speedometer cable at the stock transmission when I removed the engine and transmission. Later, after installing a Buick V6 with a 350 turbo; the old stock speedometer cable was still hanging there so I tested it as to fitting the 350 turbo.
Wonder of wonders! It screwed right on. I used the stock speedometer in the 29 all the years I drove it using that same cable.:)
    Ya never know!
    Lucky Al that time;)

Does anyone know what size the threaded end is on the torque tube that the Model A speedo screws into? I'm trying to get the A speedo to adapt to the Ford T5. I can get an adapter with the 7/8 threaded cup, but cant find a 5/8 treaded cup adapter, only for the 7/8". Just trying to find out what the stock Model A cable has for the end, specifically for a 30 to 31, since those were a square cable and not an oval. Thanks

    Thanks Rusty,
I was going to message you directly but thought since I couldn't find the information, I would post it up as a question. I guess I just need the adapter for it, simple enough. If I have trouble with anything I will reach out to you for a custom cable to be made.
