ive been doing some hard core spring cleaning. ontop of my 40' shipping containers ive had a bunch of derelict hotrod parts.... sitting, rotting. ive decided to end the decade long rot fest. i run a small machine shop in my back yard, and employ 2 local kids that are gear head oriented. we took today off to yank all this stuff down. after lunch i told them, "build me a hotrod" i sat down in my chair, cracked a beer, along with some other provisions, and watched them work. the look on their face was priceless. flabbergasted and confused as hell. told them to grab the body dolly, and take a roached *** 30 A cowl, had them weld some doors on, and used a tub, from .... something.. and they got it together! they were in heaven, and tomorrow at 0900, the shop rod gets another couple of hours of **** put together before i crack that production whip.
anytime you can get paid to build a hotrod and drink beer.... do i even need to answer your question? haha
Where in the hell were guys like you 60 years ago when I was a kid screwing up everything I touched on my junk cars, all by myself? Good on you, those kids may learn something from you that will last a lifetime!!,
Awesome. Wish my after school boss was into hot rods instead of stock car racing. I may have gone down a different rabbit hole. Although I have no complaints. It’s great to see young kids exposed to this stuff.
welp, i got up this morning, rolled one and went to look at this junk. these kids used different doors, and the right side was "suicided" welt lines were also different, close. but 1.5" further apart i talked alot of **** when they got there. production was done for the day and we went to work. i pointed out another right side door that had the same line, but was taller. "look here buddy. just chop the window" then they realized that the other door was wider. i asked them what you should do... "chop it?" ****in a right guy. doittoit. we cut the entire thing apart, and rebuilt it. now we only have 6 different cars instead of 7. i call it a win? according to the beat up A pillars, and the hacked *** rear tub, were 1/8" from square-ish had them mock this up several different ways, FTFOI. tomorrow, we have plans, but ill save that for tomorrow. gotta load a M37 on the trailer so i can trade it for a 30 pontiac roadster on friday
and this is the end of the story for the shot rod for a while. now its a rolling project. picked up a 30 pontiac coupe this weekend. the kids gotta run production, and im gonna fart around with it a bit.
And it looks like it has a ohc motor in it too !! Great way to share an experience and build a memory for them ! .
it was a spare sprint i had in the back, that i need to build a rolling stand for it. we slapped a t-10 on the back and wanted to see how it would fit in stock form. im uncertain if i wanna go fenderless and build a frame, or box this one together. too many decisions. tomorrow im putting a mock up v8 in it and maybe get these doors chopped up
Wish I had one laying around. Been into Pontiacs for yrs but never able to find a ohc motor. Had a older guy say he bought a "new" 67 firebird sprint with the 4bbl ohc motor and would turn it 7200 rpm all the time with a 4 speed and 3:55 gears. Said it surprised alot of people !
ive got a 250 non sprint in my 68 pontiac thats half ***ed together. ST-10 and a spooled 12 bolt with 4.56's **** gets down, without doors and **** LOL
The sprint motor needs to stay in the '30! I have been a Pontiac guy forever and, although it seemed an obvious choice, don't think I have ever seen an old rod with a sprint motor in it. I still have a rough but complete sprint motor and know where there is a basically rust free '37 Pontiac 2dr for sale. But, lack of money and time have thus far prevented me from doing anything but dreaming.
i couldnt do it man. i had to switch it up. im gonna pull the fenders and rod it out. i almost went with a traditional hotrod, but... i just cant maybe if i end up building the 4 dr sedan
