Hi all, I am a long-term fan of H.A.M.B. but only recently decided to become a member. Thanks to all of you I am about to embark on a m***ive body-off rebuild of my 57 Cadillac coupe. I will be stealing inspiration from the 50s and adding some modern-day upgrades. I am hoping that once it is done it will be a one-of-a-kind car that I can drive through the roads of Europe. Really excited to share the journey with like-minded individuals that understand what it takes to turn a Hotrodders dream into reality.
Thanks so much I have enjoyed that old lady for 23 years (best thing I ever bought drunk on the internet) and she is now ready for some TLC
Welcome to the HAMB from Illinois, USA. I am always cautioning overzealous rodders from dis***embling nice cars. I've seen too many piles of parts sitting in the back corner of the garage because the project became overwhelming and ran out of steam thirty years ago. If something needs fixing, fix it and get back in the road, to maintain a high level of interest in your project.
Hi Phil, Very wise words indeed however in my defense this project is 15 years in the making and I have created my project plan down to the last nut & bolt over that time saving every penny. I am also working with a very popular car museum here in the UK for all the bodywork and electricals. I have known these guys for a very long time having taken my corvette there for work so I am comfortable. As we all know the best hot rods are built £1/ $1.20 at a time so I will not commit to anything unless it complements the look or drivability. I am not vain enough to think I can do it all so I will be using spe******ts to help out as and when I see fit. Trust me I have given this a lot of thought and its twisted and turned in many ways but now I am set. The one thing I will say is that I will know that car back to front and inside out this is not a turnkey project from a rod shop this is my dream. However, I do thank you for your very wise words but I will be pushing this project along and best of all enjoying the whole trip.
