    Morning,

I am trying to install the hood hinge to connect the hood tops. The hinge is new Bob Drake stainless unit. I have tried many times to slide it on both hood tops together but the hinge feels like it it binding up, hood tops will not fold or lay down easily. Anyone else have this issue with aftermarket hinge? Thanks

Yes, on a 32. Recently a HAMBer said the Rootleib has a good repro hinge that works better than Drake's or other repros.

Hardware store 1/4 rod works better than stainless as stainless is soft and will galled. try installing with petroleum jelly as lube with a drill motor. Just did it on my 33

Thank you, great advice on the rod to connect the hood sides. I'm talking about the chrome hinge that connects the two hood tops together and allows them to pivot individually.

Too much paint on the hood tops where they go into the hinge will bind it up big time. I have had to sand down the paint on a few hoods to get the hinge to work correctly. If done carefully it will not show.

I had 5 SS center strip for my '32 and none would work. Call Rootleib for a new one. Worked perfect.

Thanks. Both my tops are bare metal. I did sand them as you suggested but still binding.
