I could need a little help on an issue i ran upon during final ***embly stage of a 1937 Cad / LaSalle transmission, the case has been line bored to accept the later 38-53 slightly stronger gears / cluster gear shaft, but just about everything that could have been wrong has been wrong with this transmission, long story but long gone history now fortunately.

Final hurdle now is the cluster gear rollers. the shaft for the cluster is 1" (25,4mm) the inside diameter of the cluster is just about 1 1/4" (31,9mm) with nice surface ,the genius before me just threw this together with random rollers that are a bit under 1/8th" (3,09-3,10mm mixed with rollers at 3,15mm) jammed in there solid, fortunately never ran this way), this resulted in too much of a gap, the cluster with shaft could work with rollers at exact 1/8th (3,175mm).

I managed to locate a gentleman in Sweden with a nice cluster gear and his gear measured 31,66mm which is quite a bit different, and would work good with the 3,09-3,10mm pins.

-Other than the one year only 1937 cluster gear that i`m not using in this, are there two different cluster gears made for these that requires two different roller diameters?

-Are rollers like this available somewhere so i can compensate since the surface finishes are nice and consistent?

-If i end up using the cluster from Sweden i will need 8 more of the 3,09-3,10mm pins if anyone has good ones available.

If anybody has any experience with this or any measurements or parts source to share it would be appreciated. Thanks.

You got lucky that the trans wasn't run with the previous builders jammed in rolls. That would have certainly trashed the bearing surfaces.

The bearing company I work for makes loose rolls but I'm not sure sure if we sell wax strips anymore to distributors. I ***ume this a full complement (no cage) bearing. What length are the rolls? I can try to find what you need.

Thank you for your response. That sounds interesting! No they are not caged. :)

Somewhere in the shop I have rollers that may be from a lasalle. I will look to see what I have and take some pics for you with measurements. @Paul may also have some ideas or inventory as he has built some Lasalles. he will jump in here when he sees this post.

I do not believe I have any you can use. This is all I have left. Top rollers are from Old/Cad while the lower pieces are from a 37 Buick cluster. You might try Northwest Trans in Ohio. They rebuild the older transmissions and have a fellow there that might be able to help you

    OHV D,
Sorry but I’m striking out finding a production 3.09x28.4mm roller. Thought I had a winner but no…
If you wanted to do some grinding you could pull the rolls out of a B-2120 drawn cup bearing and trim each end down to desired length. They are trunnion ended rollers so it would leave you some grind relief… Each B-2120 bearing has 37-3.084x29.69mm rolls.
