I'd call the spring manufacturer and ask the perch width for a Model A roadster. If it's made to custom specs, they are the only ones who would know the distance required.

That's what i ended up doing. Told me 44" so that's how far I spaced my mount. Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

  3. It was great having you stop by the shop man. That QC looks great mocked up in that chassis. Boling Brothers make a nice frame. We'll be watching this thread, but hit us up if we can answer any questions about that rear along the way.

    Got some more mock-up done.

Does this gap look right? Between the body and frame. Seems excessive, this is my first model a build.

What does it look like in the trunk area? I’m pretty certain you’ll need to cut and modify subrails, but I’m not versed in how those are done from Brookville. Or just lopping off the ears of the A style crossmember? Does Boling make their frames narrower in the rear to fit between subrails so no modification is needed?

looking closer at photos. Removing the outboard ears of crossmember should do it. Then the rear mounts should land right down in your wood block. Again, not versed on these products, but that’s what I see.

Still needs more. I'd make the bottom of the body parallel to the frame rails under there.

Looks amazing. Any tips on where I can find an original model a roadster body?

Do what I did. Scour the internet for months and months and don’t see anything. Then just order a brookville, after that original bodies will be all over the place for sale at great prices. Maybe that’s just how it works for me.

But seriously, join some Facebook model a groups. They do pop up.

also, I have taken 3” out of this grill shell. I feel like it still needs a tad bit more removed. I can always shim the radiator up a little.

    thoughts?

  17. I agree but not too much. Maybe 1/2" or 3/4".
Can you roll it outside & take pictures from 30 or 40 feet away?

If you put your hood on, the panel line between the hood and cowl will tell you if the height of the grill shell is to high or to low.

Nice build so far brother. Brings back lots of memories on my coupe build. Good that you're asking questions. that's how you learn. Lots of good guys on here that are more than willing to help with their knowledge. Will be following.

Great job so far, Im really enjoying watching this come together.
Next time you make a cut on the grill shell, could you maybe take a photo looking inside the shell at where the cuts are being made? Im trying to visualize.
    Thank you!

I gotta say, the guys at US RADIATOR have been great to deal with. Told them what I needed, they sent me a drawing and I made a quick template to check things out.

Couldn't agree more about US Radiator. They have been super helpful with my build!
