mid-am hamb chop???????????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by atch, Jun 10, 2003.

  1. I think this is a great idea... you guys are to be commended for your efforts... I just wish I could be there to help pass the torch...
I also haven't heard much about these cars after they get chopped... how are these young guns doing on their cars?? Are any of them on the road yet? Did they get the chop and then loose interest?? Don't want to burst bubbles... or even sound like I'm bursting a bubble... I'm just curious how they are doing and what kind of impact the chop session had on the young lads...

    Sam.

SAM I AM... dude...you been sleeping?

maybe you just werent paying attention but TOKYO has been posting progress pics and reports for the last 11 months since we chopped it.

Its a big place the hamb and its hard to keep up on everyones projects but id say it had a HUGE effect on Tokyos merc... im not DOGGING You sam

He overhauled his flatty this past winter, got pistons from rocky, waterpumps from modernbeat, a gen bracket from? Intake he bought from Ryan tri carb...

my point is alot of hambers have been supporting his build up with REAL parts and time invested in answering his questions.

HUGE IMPACT the HAMB has not to mention the Chop...

    I appreciate the offer 76.

However, I can't see the sense in hauling that thing all the way there when we have available shop space in Tulsa.

We would sure make it worth your while to come see "Green Country" though.

I think we can make this happen, A Mid-Am Hambchop.

Or, just a bunch of guys from the same message board modifying an old Buford.

In cas someone has a problem using the name.

MONKEY and I talked a bit about it this weekend and agree that this fall would be the time to do it. Still many more discussions to be had.

We have been trying to get Prettyman to put his two cents in but he is working some crazy ass hours at the Ford Glass Plant. Gotta work when you can get it around here!

    More later. </font>

Hey Atch, I do a lot of sheetmetal welding in my daily grind. If it happens within a two or three hour drive from my house, I would be glad to help out. I even have a portable TIG rig I can bring.Have to be a pretty good fit to use the TIG though.

I'm still in...just need more info and a set place. Let me know what I need to do!

  12. I guess it all comes down to who is the soul shop to conduct the HAMBchop. I alright with MO, but as Monkey said, just about all of the mid Am majority is in Oklahoma. The portable tig would work out perfect. As Rashy said there is plenty of us who have place for y'all to stay. I have an extra bedroom or two. Let's do Tulsa, Please, please, please!!!!! Ryan let us know we're ready to Rock n Roll.

  13. bttt. Let's plan this thing and get the ball rolling. Pretty soon we'll be doing HAMB events worldwide throughout the year. Next we'll do HAMBchop Europe, then HAMBchop Aussie, and not to forget the Scandinavian countries, HAMBchop too close to the north pole for me. I'm serious, we can make HAMB events the shit only real people attend.

    Alright,

We have a victim, a shop, places to stay, and tools.

All we need now is a date and for Prettyman to pull his head outta his arse and come up for air.

there's a picture above of prettyman's car, although it's somewhat dark. could someone photoshop it to be a little lighter? then photoshop various inches of chop? maybe leaving the b pillars in and also leaving them out? seems to me that the hardest (not physical difficulty, just the mental part) part of my chop was figuring out exactly where and how much i wanted chopped. then it was a much simpler matter to lay it out on clarence and do the cutting.

course if prettyman has already got this figured out this becomes redundant (like paperwork generated by the governmental "department of redundancy department").

I'll be happy to show up and would try to bring Twisted Okie with me. We both have been in on more than one chop and could at least help lift the top, and I have my own hacksaw. Keep us posted, T- town is just two hours east.

Here it is chopped...i made one with leaned b-pillars, but it just didn't look as good as this one

  20. Maybe I'm a little slow. Yes I am.
Is the chop in central MO, or closer to OK?

  21. So Tulsa it is? Man, that is righteous. I gotta go to get my learn on; 49 Chevy to axe myself. After a lot of other stuff...

  22. As said earlier, I think mid fall or winter will be the best timing for our MidAm HAMBchop. This way we can make HAMBchop events happen year round. Besides, it gives us something to do while we have "car"bin fever.
Rashy, I don't have Prettyman's digits. If you talk to him, have him give me a jingle.
What do you guys think about early October? Still warm enough to work cool and not so cold to freeze our balls off.

    I'll keep posted,

how about late october? i know this thing isn't built around me, and if i have to miss it i guess there's just nothing i can do about it, but i've got other committments that can't be changed the 4/5 (my car club show; i'm the prez and can't very well skip it) the hunnert car pileup is the 11th (i'm not committed to going, but i want to and i imagine that others here will be going), and the weekend of the 17th is ggkc/quincy color run/bonneville world finals/a wedding i MUST be at.

    just my 2 cents.

  24. I'm willing to work with just about any schedule from fall on through winter. Just the colder it gets, the colder my shop. I do have heat, of course, but it's a concrete building and Oklahoma charges ASTRONOMICAL amounts of money for their precious natural gas.
I'm playing baseball until late September and most car events start winding up around that time as well. Sheeeeet Atch, You made the post, it's my shop, I'll work witcha! As long as it's not during the World Series. [IMG]

I heard there is a Curious Rash going around the hamb and everyone's itching. I got a call from Monkey today saying I should wake up and check out the hamb. Work has kept me busy lately, so excuses excuses. This mid-am chop sounds pretty cool and I am astonished that the buford was brought up. It would be cool if you guys were to use the old buick. I have places for people to stay if it were to happen. I will try to check back in whenever I can. Thanks for the nomination.

    Tulsa, OK...good
    October.....good
    Chop....good

If the 220 single phase service is strong enough, I'll bring up my TIG rig also and we can go to town on it.

Those doors in the Photo-Chop look like they'll take a lot of work, but it looks good, specially for a sedan.

Alright boys....there it is! Weekend of the 10-12 good for everyone? Reverend, You sure your shop is OK? Everybody kool and the gang with Tulsa? Can't freakin miss us. Right in the middle of I-44, I-244, I-75 and Route 66. That's about as mid-am as were going to get. We got plenty of places to stay. Looks like it's going to happen. We can do roll call at the HAMB drags and then again closer to the event. It'll be a good time fellas. Thanks for all the input and interest!
