Any '55-'63 265 or 283 will be forged--from '64-'67, I believe only truck engines got forged cranks. I'm sure I've got a spare if you can't find one locally.

The casting number on my crank is 3849847. i looked it up on mortec and it said that it was forged but i found a different web site that said it was cast.
    can anyone help me?

  6. cast cranks will have a small parting line maybe 1/8" wide , forged cranks have a wide one

also ,on 283 forged cranks the hub on the rear (where the flywheel bolts) will be completely round...cast ones have a liitle notch
