Just wondering who you used to have an original '32 heavy front axle dropped and aligned? I really like the ones with a consistent drop section profile. Photos are always great to see. Bob
Okie Joe. Drop was perfect he checked and repaired the king pin holes and the perch holes. Looked like new when returned.
I've used Anson Axles for dropping several deuce big beams, very consistent 2.5 inch drops. I know several on here have had problems getting a hold of him but I talked to him at the swap meet at the LARS at his swap spot which was full of axles to be dropped and dropped axles and he said he was busier than ever. Gave me his business card for future reference.
Andy Kohler did one for me this summer, and it looks great. He's in your end of the country so it should be cheaper to get it to him. I'm in the middle of the US, and it cost me $50 to ship it out to him, but he delivered it for free on his way thru to Bonneville.
I had Andy Kohler do these. I had a hard time getting ahold of Anson even though he's allot closer to me.
Anson and Sid. (I think Okie Joe works with Sid; am I right?) Never a flaw, these guys have the 'touch'. (torch??) That too.
Andy Kohler dropped my '33 axle, its very similar to the one in post #14 His shop is in Williamsport PA. Phone #570-494-7362
I dropped mine right on my ****in foot...so I sent it to @thunderbirdesq for some of the nifftiest, craftiest, *****inest, axle dropping around! -boom
Thx for the support fellas! I sure have been dropping alot of 32 axles lately, here's a few recents. If anyone is interested in having an axle dropped, my turnaround time is two weeks and my drops include any straightening or minor alignment correction that may be needed. If you want to save on shipping at least one way I will be at Hershey. Thanks!
It was mentioned to me by a fellow hamber that mine may be an original Mor-Drop done by John Moore prior to his p***ing perhaps in the 70's. Identified by a tighter radius starting near the perch and a larger radius near the king pin. This allowing the steering arm to clear without such a tight bend. The difference in the radius is certainly noticeable. If anyone has one of his originals I'd love to see a picture for comparison.
That looks like it could be a mor drop, I had one few years back that I purchased from the original owner who bought it directly from mor drop in the late 50s or early 60s. It looked similar . I think it would be really difficult to say exactly who did it without some sort of direct confirmation from whoever bought it from the dropper. Lots of guys dropping lots of axles in that style over the last 70 years or so. Also, no two drops are EXACTLY alike, even when using a form of some sort there are always subtle variations in form and shape. If you look at my drops I try to leave a little room between where the kingpin boss is and where the drop starts for the same reason, less trauma when dropping the steering arms. I also stamp and serialize my axles so folks know where they came from.
This is a Mor-Drop circa '89 or '90. This '32 & two '33 I had M.D. do. The '33s were an extra deep drop, really stretched. The '33s are gone, still have the '32. Always saving it "for the next one"
I made mine from an axle I had bought that someone cut the ends off of. The axle was ruined so had nothing to loose. I made a jig and welded it up. The gooseneck is solid 1 1/2" plate. It looks like a filled axle but it is solid steel.
Jesse Coots at Old Soul Hotrod Shop in LeRoy NY did my '41. Did a really nice job. I'll probably be bringing him my Model A axle soon.
Kohler Kustom dropped my axle and the arms on my spindles, they look GREAT, Highly Recommend the shop! This photo was posted originally on February 17, 2018. Bob
I did drop mine by myself. The first and only 32 heavy i have dropped, they are hard to find over here in Finland. That is why i'm keeping it myself. Is it nice looking or not, that is up to you to judge by pictures. But how about the facts? The goal was to have KPI 8,0 deg to match 37and later spindels. It turned out to have KPI 8,7deg and 8,1deg. Also to caster way, if i set other king pin to 0deg, that side perch is 0deg, other side perch -0,8deg and king pin +0,2deg. So everything is inside of 1,0deg and difference between king pins are 0,2deg. I think that both KPI and caster is inside tolerances and it is good to go, but what do you wiser guys think about it?
