Well, ****. I spent the last hour wiggling and prying the stupid ****** on my Model A and it seems to be stuck or something. The bell housing will pull away from the engine all the way around, the torque tube is completely out, etc. NOTHING is holding this thing on, unless there is something inside the bellhousing stuck or still bolted together. Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right. I sprayed the whole thing with WD40 and came inside to search and finally ask the gurus. This is a stock banger motor and 3 speed. HELP!!! Thanks in advance.
It didn't. So what I did was start swallowing lit matches to burn the taste out of my mouth. I'll go spray the transmission now - it's better than hitting it with a BFH, which is of course the next option...
Sounds like a clutch disk/input shaft spline bond that needs to be broken. Can you see anything through the square inspection hole?
Well, after some inspiration from the WD40... I put a big pry bar on it and voila! It seems as though the input shaft is stuck in the pilot bearing. The whole thing came out - sort of lucky I guess, because pilot bearings are a pain to get out. Actually had to unbolt the clutch from the flywheel too before the whole thing would drop because something else was seized up. Anyway, its off and I went to bed about 1am. Thanks for the help, inspiration and laughs!
