Technical 1940 Ford pedals vs 1939 Ford pedals

I'm still looking/researching but has anyone made or mated a 40's pedal ***embly to a '39 pedal ***embly?. I want to keep the stock pedals for location but I want to have the clutch arm on the inside (next to the trans like the '39 pedals).

Thinking out loud.......can I use the '39 pedal mount, is the brake pedal end thick enough to handle the large bushing (after being bored out), is the '39 shaft long enough for the '40/'41 pedals.

The Powerglide in the '41 p/u is still leaking on the sloped driveway (I think the converter is draining as it sits). I want to put in a 3 speed and I need to put a clutch pedal back on and make it work to a later trans.


SBC to a 3.03 Ford with a T150 top shift conversion and stock pedals is the plan.

BTW does anyone have a picture of the stock pedal ***embly for a 1941 Ford pickup and/or pedal part numbers.

 

Just use the compleat 39 Peddle ***y ,it’s a bolt in ,the frames are the same ,you can’t wrong,I used it to run a Muncie with a small Chevy. And it works great !!!

 

If you install a complete 39 unit nothing inside the cab will be changed. Much easer than trying to graph anything together. Go to Drake and buy a new unit.

 

What they said makes sense and worked for me. Here is what a 1940 set looks like. I believe 1941 very similar.

 

It's going to be easier to modify off the truck where I'm going to be working on it. I might try to find some '40/'41 pedals and some '39 pedals and see where I'm at. The curves are different of each pedal and it comfortable where they're at now.

I'm all for having a good time, but if I was your friend...I'd probably say fix the leak. Yea...that's what I'd say.
But as a typical guy...oh yea dude, that's gonna rock!

Do not use the reproduction 39 pedals they are cast iron and known to break in hard braking situations!

 

'40 and '41 pickup pedal ***embly is same as '40 car. All of the part numbers for the components have an 01A- prefix. Ford changed the pedal ***embly in '40 because '40 cars (and optional of '40 and '41 pickup) had column shift, and the '39 style clutch linkage would have interfered with the shift linkage for the column shift.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I didn't know the foot print was the same, now when I get the time to work on it it might just be a little heat to bend the pedals or if I'm lucky it'll fit right in (pedal wise). For now it's a trough underneath and a gallon of atf in the back.....it has to wait it's turn again and I'm mostly sitting out the heat/humidity.

 

Here’s what we did, modified 40 pedals to work with a sbc in 35-40 frames. Pressed the 40 shaft out of the frame bracket, machined it to accept the stock bushings and made a new shaft to mimic the 39 style ***embly. Will pin the clutch arm to the shaft after mock up is complete.

 

Nice work! Kind of reminds me of something similar I did many years back. Yours is much better with the bushing in the frame bracket.

 

Excellent work. Really like the longer (than stock 39) welded clutch arm with adjustment holes to ensure adequate clutch travel.
