Sorry no photos, I got the Studebaker to the track for a second attempt as the first was halted by ignition troubles. Overall it was a great day, my rear suspension works great . I made three passes at this 1/8 mile track and ran a 8.11 , 8.06 , and a 8.03 . It has been thirty five years since I last did this so 7's are within reach with more seat time.

I was by myself, my BIL showed up to help me in the water. It might show up on Youtube. Trust me it gets a lot of attention. Kinda slow though, I was really hoping for a 7 off the trailer. But that is how we drive it on the street so not to shabby for a low budget build. Now for some slicks and a 5.13 !

Aren't you concerned about knocking out a turn signal from a badly thrown piece of firewood while you're loading your truck?:D

    But seriously, nice touch!

Took out the AC panel (only takes 10 minutes) so I could lay under the dash reach up and remove the clock. (20 minutes if you remember the right tools)
Been working for 10 years, bugged me when it quit. I was going to upgrade to Quartz but told by 2 clock guys the new ones now are junk. The shop doing the repair told me to either add an on/off switch or disconnect the battery if you only use the car on weekends. I’m going with a switch. 11. First warm day. Took the 34 out, filled it up with gas and hammered unmercifully through the gears a few times.

20230228_164032.jpg Yesterday I put the crank back into the block and put one piston and the cam in to check the cam timing. I have ground the cam a little to get a bit more lift and valve acceleration. Turned out that the original timing is right where I want it. Inlet is 0,366" lift with correct clearance, exhaust is 0,358" lift. Inlet has 0,02" more lift on overlap TDC so this seems about right. Today I installed the washers on the guides to get a bit more spring pressure and put all the valves back into the block. Next stop is install of the pistons. All I got done was shipping the '27 T roadster to some guy up in Yankeeland. Soon as I get done with these cataract surgeries, I can concentrate on the A RPU. 20230228_141243.jpg

10 days and not a drop of oil evident on the tube line or oil pump. I may have finally got that one.

Moved my shitbox 45 miles north. Got half of my shop unpacked and set the ass end loosely on the frame so I can get the other half unpacked. It’s something I guess.

  22. Managed to get the windshield garnish and mirror on without wrecking them. Found I have to redo the A pillar trim I made yesterday, figures. Seems like I spent a lot of time yesterday and today without getting very far.

Initial assembly is almost complete. Just a few things to finish up on the minimal body work and other very minor items. Then it'll be time to see if it'll move under its own power. It's been in the works for about 16 months now, ground up, and I'm looking forward to seeing it move!

  27. I have always liked the look of a '57 Buick grille in a Chevy, but didn't like the idea of chopping up the splash pan on my finished car.
    IMG_4149.JPG

So with the help of 57Trucker, a scan and dfx. file was made of the original grille. Then the original grille shape and mounting points were merged with the Buick vertical slots and cut from 300 series stainless steel.
    IMG_4148.JPG

    IMG_4155.JPG

The view above shows the grille with the protective covering on the polished side. The view below is without the covering.

Slight modification to the hoodlatch/grille bar support.
