I have 2 water pumps that are the Speedway cast aluminum polished pumps for the 49-53 Flathead. They are probably 10 years old and probably have less than an hour run time. Unfortunately they are leaking. Are these rebuildable? I could have a stab at pressing them apart, but it would help if I knew what I was getting in to.

    thanks,

Call Speedway and speak to one of their tech people. Being 10 years old, they may have the old style bearings and carbon seals. New style would have sealed cartridge type with ceramic seals and sealed bearings and should not leak. Either way these pumps are not hard to rebuild. To avoid confusion I would advise looking on the internet for instructions.

These should be the new style, but I have not seen anything on the internet. I spoke with tech yesterday and the answer I got was ‘we don’t sell a kit for it.

I would take them apart and see what's in there. Rebuild kits are available from any early Ford parts vendor if they are what you have. You may have to find an original used core to compare. Good luck with your project.
