Well, with chrome prices on the rise, I need to look at other options for my own stuff. I was wondering if you guys have found any cool stuff out there that works good. I tried some of that chrome paint years ago, and it didnt work, at all. How does it look if you just paint your chrome parts silver? Any other ideas out there? trey
We bought one of the powder coaters from HF and got an old stove from my Sister in Law so we age going to get some of the chrome powder coat from Eastwood (since it is a one part now) and do our chrome in that. We saw some done that way at a little car show this year. Gumpa
for small parts you could use chrome tape.i've got a magazine where they custom made a grill for the car out of curtain rod and used chrome tape on it.looked nice.i wouldnt have noticed if they hadnt mentioned it creepy
Bare metal, lots of clear coat. BTW For those that dont know S-10 I shaved and filled all of the holes.
thermal coatings like HPC can be done in colors. I think the silver can be polished or brushed with steel wool.
Technical Video Rentals has a good tutorial DVD on how to setup your own chrome plating facility but if you aren't into the chemicals you may want to try the new House of Kolor "Kosmic Krome" products...mirror reflective, aluminum, copper, and bronze. Here's a pic of the mirror (chrome-like) reflective...
the new podercoating weve got here looks really close to chrome. thats probably what im going to use. we compared it to regular chrome. it was close, not perfect. you could only tell when it was compared to another. by itself it looked good.
i recently got a quote for chroming some windshield frames i made...350.00 so i had them nickel plated for 40.00,and they look totally *****en.it's not as thick as chrome,so the metal has to be nearly perfect because it will show scratches. i think it looks cl***ier than chrome anyway....
Whats that other way....electric nickel plating(sp?).....race cars use it. you must polish the metal perfect before getting a shop to apply...I know I have the terminology wrong..... A club member has some done on his 39 rag....nuts,bolts,front end ,etc,etc.....worked out ot be 500 pieces for 500 bucks. Looks good
an alternative is Cad (Cadmium) plating, but I think its chemicals are as problematical as chrome these days
dunno if this interests you but I have seen pics from a motorcycle shop using it to do their chroming.... only should be used on stuff that doesnt get a TON of abuse like a wheel... http://caswellplating.com/kits/copychrome.htm
Johnny, Could you share with us what Chrome Powder that your using? I'd like to find someone here in Florida to do it for me.
