Hot Rods ROADSTER LUST, IS THERE A CURE? YESSIR! SEE BELOW. (Update 6 Aug)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hotrodA, Jan 27, 2023.

  1. Well, after impatiently waiting weeks for no rain, today was the day. After a numbing 5 1/2 hrs. drive, I made it to Ardmore AL. Took us a couple hours to switch out the sedan for the roadster, and another hour to splice back the trailer light wiring plug that had ground itself in two from dragging on the pavement. Many thanks to Keith and his buddy Gary for doing the hard work for this old man.

    BUC-EES APPROVED!

Got the top irons, 3” chopped windshield frame and posts, WiseGuys seat with foam and a few other bits. I’m stoked!! Viva the HAMB!!

My pops has had the roadster issue for the last 60 years, still dealing with it! IMG_0952.JPG

This is an awesome update, but if you think this cures the roadster bug wait until it's a driver! You won't be able to wipe the grin off your face.

Congratulations on your newly acquired roadster body. This one followed me home unexpectedly from Hershey last year. Lol

Been there, done that…….it was fun as it always kept people thinking that I had two cars…..one black rose & the other straight up jet black. 10C1F6D1-D190-4A05-8578-E38CE53C7BF1.jpeg 0FD4C130-9817-4E7A-95AF-7D5C78D25E72.jpeg Still have the roadster on it’s intended chassis when acquired 30+ years ago.
Did the chassis swap for a “as described plan by the original poster” 32 Roadster 1D92889B-67CF-4A4B-B613-78A3F8325422.jpeg all period correct for late 30’s dry lakes look. it wasn’t inexpensive, but it was way worth it…..

Yes, That wasn't really the plan though so soon . I wanted to do another one next year so I figured I would order it at Hershey '22 for pickup at Hershey '23. When I spoke to Ken about it at Hershey '22 he mentioned he had exactly the body configuration I wanted with him at the show. I figured it was meant to be and brought it home with me.

    In the barn.
It’s been a long road to get back to this point.
    Finally have my deuce roadster.:D
Sporting a new trunk handle that I had saved for years in anticipation of this day.
    Lucky I could find it!

Glad to hear that you got a roadster, the most fun car I have ever owned, even in many rain storms. I have coupes also but love the roadster the most. You will be having a lot of fun coming up. IMG_0674.jpeg

    Nope,no cure!! ;)
I started with my roadster hotrod ideas in the mid 1950s,took me a few years to build it,out of mostly scrounge up parts. By 1959,I had a running hotrod 28A roadster, powered by Ford T-Bird 292.
Being a teen at the time, thinking every thing through, well some stuff was not in my know. Like that the cute Gal's would love to take a ride, but after didn't want to go again=hair got blown an not real private ,too park in for a date.
So some time passed, before I got smart enough to make a folding top for it.
I still have it,and Gal's still like looking at ROADSTER's [IMG]

  21. Hi Al,
Glad to see that the old hotrodA is alive and well, and in good hands! Lots of memories!

@SPEC, here you go. Still alive in NH.

Bill, glad you'll be returning to the ecstasy of a slow left turn in the rain in a hiboy roadster. In the immortal words of Bill Stewart from the South Florida Street Rods, "If you're gunna to be dumb, you gotta be tuff." Can't wait to see the finished product. Happy Motoring!

Better get some Gibb’s, before the rust really starts digging in!

  27. That’s plan A. Strip the rust with Scotchbrite and give it the Gibbs treatment.

Looking good, keep us updated on the progress of the build.

  29. Thanks, but I have to finish up the 40 coupe engine swap first.
