When broadly discussing joining technology, many things beside joint design effect the usability and suitability, remember it's clean surface, enough surface and exposed surface area, proper mixing and temperature. I'm suggesting you will use it as both an adhesive and a filler. I've sketched a few ways to attach and reinforce after a good clean up. Ideas, nothing more.

People don't do the same thing they did in the old days not because you can't, but because there are easier and faster ways.

And before the, "you have to weld it up" crowd convinces you their way is better, and with all due respect to them, their abilities... I have to really remember the words my father would say, son...those guys got more money then brains.

He also liked saying all long hair no brains... The original work smarter not harder man.

Forgive the quick and crudely drawn sketches and the lack of detail to indicate adhesive. But if you look at a spec sheet for the product, you'll discover strength is lost with gap, and when it seals and fills, it's a barrier finish. If you need to you can drill and screw to attach, remove and fill the hole with the product like a rivet it plugs and it seals up.

I used to weld for a living, and yet I'm saying glue it. Because even for me the risk to screw it up is great. I know how cheap talk is, and that real work costs money and takes time. Fit and finish costs money. More I think about you welding in a patch the more I'm going to say I tried to tell him, I tried to say...

Don't do it. It'll only cause you pain.
Sounds easy and looks good on paper.
Yea, cut it out, weld it up, Yee haw Raw Hide. You'll get what you pay for. Go get the rust out.

With all due respect, think long and hard on your next move. And don't over estimate your abilities, not everyone can be that guy, but you could still be the other guy.

You notice the skin is off the door. I fixed six and glued the skins back on all 6. Go figure, I recently discovered a new tool for folding the edge over where I used a hammer a dolly. I used a long set time so I wasn't rushed.

With out filler, looks not bad. If I'd have glued them with a backing they would have been looking a few points smoother still maybe?

    But good luck with that.

Chop your top 2". Cut 1" out from below the rear window and 1" removing the seam.
