So I have a 29AA was stock drove for awhile got tired of going slow.
So had a SBC, 700r4 and Dana 70 out of Ford van. Old AC, power steering anyway lots of parts just sitting.
Have truck built now ( not my first build ) fighting with many bad new parts and super high costs of everything I am down to one problem. I cannot get fuel pumps to work.

Made a SS 35 gallon tank using a Carter pump it makes pressure for about 20 minutes then falls ot 1 or 2 lbs.
Checked filters, took off gas cap, ran a jumper from battery to pump does same with engine off, drained tank. Ordered new Carter pump same result. Tried different brand same results.
Now I have a Bosch 044 and return type regulator same results. HELP.
I guess I can try another tank?

How big is your tank vent, and where is it located?

Where is pump located in relationship to the tank? How high up does the pump need to pump fuel to get it to the carburetor?

Tank vent on top and I also tried without gas cap. Fuel pickup on bottom of tank. Pump below tank. Tomorrow I will try using a 5 gallon tank. Weird trunk tank has good flow when I drain it.
    Thanks for replying

What’s the voltage at pump when running fine vs when it goes bad?

What is the Amperage rating of the fuel pump relay.

    How is that relay controlled?

What gauge of wiring are you using for the pump?

No relays to pump, I have run both +@- directly from battery to rule out wiring and grounds. Also does it on 12 volt and when charging at 14 volt.
    It's got me completely baffled.

Do you have a filter between the tank and the pump. Any restriction can cause cavitation in the pump. Put a clear line in and look for bubbles

Here is tank before the baffle was placed to keep gas by pickup.

Is that a truly direct connection to the battery, or is there some kind of switch in there?

Do you have an infrared thermometer (non-contact pyrometer)? If so, can you check the temperature of the fuel pump wiring when it is doing this?

Do you have another battery to try?

Direct to battery is only to make sure its not wiring. Otherwise it is switched.

    Pump does get warm.

    I will try another battery.
