    Hello,

My wife and I were talking about old surfing days and how convenient the 65 El Camino was for going on trips that required a surfboard in the back. Just slide it in, protect the nose, put a towel on the chrome rear door top, strap it down and off we went. Then, we talked about an easier way to have a convertible to lower the top, drop the surfboard in behind the seats and it is protected by the rear seats. Just a strap to keep it from sliding around on turns.
    upload_2023-3-10_5-27-56.png But, station wagons ruled...
From the convertible easy access, the talk went to a disappearing hardtop convertible that was/is popular these days. The fun of a full convertible with a protective hard top was safety on the mark. So, we kept the conversation mellow about a convertible. Yes, we still like the Tahitian Red or Candy Apple painted 53 Buick Skylark convertible we saw at a diner in Newport Beach one time and that was hard to forget. But, the cost of one these days is astronomical.

So, in the next day or two, we saw a red Chevy truck model. Then we saw the same model in yellow with the top down and gone, converted to a open pickup/convertible. As she has always like the convertibles, we continued to talk about the era of the sporty car days and a “Targa” top.

We have always liked station wagons/early trucks and the 50 Plymouth Station Wagon was one of the high school surf wagons that was seen at most places along the southern surf spots. So, I previously drew a Plymouth Station Wagon and now made changes to it to accommodate my wife’s idea of a “Targa Top”station wagon or pick up truck. Just like the one she saw as a newer factory model. (the removable top still creates the roll protection of the rear panel +window…)

Or, for my wife’s taste in a “Targa Top”… The convenience of a secure truck, no sunroof available for a truck and the simple removable “Targa Top” for her So Cal sunshine needs… YRMV

Finally dusting off the colorizing oils after a long hiatus. Hand colorized from vintage B&W photo. The " Twin Bears" digger getting sorted out at El Mirage. Ended up winning the first Winternationals in 1961. Twin blown 283's!

Really cool colorization. Back in the early '50's my mom's uncle was a photographer in PA coal country. His sister was the artist that colored all his black and white photos before color photography became the norm. Thanks for me taking back in time. And thanks to all who post on the FAS. Always makes for a good start to the weekend.

Always love your work mark! I like the '40 pickup! Maybe you could do something with my '39 coupe.
