I'd agree with hitting the swapmeets and Keep an eye on adds on CRaigslst and fB market place for yard/estate sales with car parts and tools.
I’ve been looking but not really hard and it seems like the used stuff you’re looking for is also a little pricey. But then again what isn’t these days.
I've seen some good looking covers in the cl***ifieds here I've seen some good looking covers in the cl***ifieds here
I found some used Ansens, Wiends for sale google most were cracked/busted for $150 . Ha Ha , Naw. Might as well just spend the coin and get these holly's rather than 150 for cracked busted ones https://www.holley.com/products/engine/valve_covers/small_block_chevy/muscle_series/parts/241-134 https://www.holley.com/products/engine/valve_covers/small_block_chevy/cast/parts/6850 https://www.holley.com/products/engine/valve_covers/small_block_chevy/cast/parts/6855G
My first place when I need something is talking to local folks. That's right... actually talking to folks. Screw that online big store stuff. Haven't bought a item like valve covers, intakes or mag wheels online in years. Plenty of those items locally. Just my opinion...your results may vary.
Most swap meets will have plenty of SBC covers. If there cheap I buy them and hang them on the wall. Been looking for a pair of Ridge Runners govers to go with a tunnel ram . if your looking for them they will hide LOL
If got a few sets of old early '60 factory steel valve covers with the "chevrolet" stamped. One set I had show quality chromed 40 years ago . They dont have any breather holes . Their asking big bucks $$ for these too I do have a set of Big Block Ansens and a set of M/Ts.
Good find, that's a real good price. Guy seems willing to ship, too. Easy enough to knock out one of those hole plugs if needed. If I was the OP I'd strongly consider these. Would look nice with a polish job.
in my salad days, corvette valve covers were "it." one thing to remember: pre-1960 heads had offset mounting holes for the valve covers...
Hello, This photo of a 671 supercharger on a SBC motor was/is a very popular look. But, in those early days, a rarity on SBC motors. It was a simple thing to do for anyone with a 265 or 283 motor to go to the dealers or chrome/speed shops to get the aluminum finned covers. The Corvette covers were just the same, with the idea that the motors were Corvette, by putting on a Corvette logo cover. A lot of guys had the Corvette logo covers, others had the name brand versions, while a few had just finned covers and one Moon Breather custom fitted to serve its intended purpose. Clean, smooth installation and above the norm. To prove a point, they were all Corvette motors in their raw stages from the engine department of the factory. So, most felt fine using a real embossed Corvette logo cover on their SBC motors. No one had pre-made oil breather locations in the castings. It was all fins or with a name on the finned cover. So, care had to be taken when shaving the fins down for a perfectly smooth surface for the aluminum Moon Breathers. Jnaki As we learned, there was no need for a huge hole in the aluminum covers. Several distinct holes drilled in to allow breathing, but, prevent oil splashing leaks was important. Some just did not listen and cut out a hole the size of the breather opening. even with a gasket, they leaked. So, the simple thing was to drill the holes above the half way mark of the breather outlined opening. No leaks and it sealed well... Note: The small hole drilling, above the 1/2 way outline technique, goes for all steel valve covers that are used to place breathers or such extras. YRMV
Keep your eyes and ears open . A Friend of mine Son has a small mechanic shop in an old filling station on a Main Street through a small town. A s****er stopped in one afternoon and asked him if he wanted any old car parts . The guy was cleaning out a garage for an Older Lady who’s Husband had p***ed away . There was a sbc dual carb intake with the carbs . A couple pairs of early Corvette cast valve covers . He was able to get the parts and the location of the garage.
