    Hello all,

I am doing a presentation for the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County on April 27th, at 5pm at Central United Methodist Church on Asheville's Automotive History. I'll be covering the history from 1901 - 1980 or so. In my presentation, I'll be talking about much of the racing that went on around downtown Asheville, street racing, early road development and some of the interesting people that made up our car community.

I'm trying to get people to bring old cars out that we can park in front of the church (I'll have my 1923 Model T built by NASCAR hall of famer Jack Ingram's brother, Lonnie Ingram) and am trying to find someone in Asheville with a Ford Flathead V8 powered car or hot rod. I will be talking about the flathead a fair amount to non-car people and I feel like they will be able to understand it better if we have one that someone can start up after the program and people can see, hear and smell it. I'll also be speaking about the movie Thunder Road and the filming that was done in Asheville, as I have done some deep research on it over the last couple of years.

Another bump back up for a cool project. Would love to see your presentation, especially the research you've done regarding the filming of Thunder Road there in and around Asheville. My first eye exam as a child was at an opthalmologist on that cobblestone street where Mitchum jumped out the window into the dump truck bed.

Thunder Road was a cult cl***ic in the South. Saw it many times, often paired with Thunder in Carolina w/ Rory Calhoun as a Double Feature at drive-ins.

    Good luck with the projects.....Don.

Good Luck on your presentation, hopefully you will have some vintage Fords there. That's a great area for many things, this would definitely be a plus for all the car/history lovers. Reach out to the local clubs and have them put this on their calendars, you know those people would be interested.

Thank you! Thunder in Carolina is a great movie. I would love to put together an event this fall where we show that and Thunder Road. The building I work in during the week (Sawyer Motor Building) on Coxe avenue serviced all of the Fords for Thunder Road when it was Matthews Ford. Across the street at Deppe Motors, Robert Mitchum bought two Edsels while filming here!
