That photo was probably taken in the 1963-64 timeline in So Cal. The popularity of the surf culture and coastal activities were perfect for the onslaught of Mopeds. The mopeds were more popular than hot rods (Aghast!!!) and were multiplying by the thousands all over So Cal. Gas powered, pedal start, runs all day and easily transported in a pickup or station wagon to other areas farther away.

During that time, Mopeds were found at the popular beach areas and were like rabbits, multiplying in the blink of an eye. But, in the hot summer nights, there was something to be said about riding around on a little Moped and stopping at stoplights with a car full of teenagers in the next lane. Similar to being in a hot rod, but closer to the teenage action.

Much the same thing is going on, today with the abundance of electric bicycles of all kinds. A novelty at first with high prices, now, so many different models with teeny kids riding them all over the place. They have multiplied much like the Mopeds of that era of 65-64. But now, cities are restricting where they can be ridden.

Coastal cities have beach trails along the shoreline. Boardwalks and strolling lanes bring the casual visitor to the beaches. So, the regular bicycles are popular. But now, the electric bicycle has been banned from most of those city oceanfront walking trails. YRMV

NOTE: One popular surfing beach has banned electric bicycles from the beachside sandy shoreline. So, there is that result from the vast multiplication of easy, faster access to the surfing locations.

 

The car appears to be a Devin body. I don't know about hers.

 

Another nice sectioned "Shoebox" Ford.

 

Any info on this one would be appreciated, have seen this image before in different context.

 

This "Shoebox" was restored a few years back, I think the fellows last name was Dunn.
