I love seeing this thread every week 'cause it gets me MOTIVATED.

I got the last part of the Merc undone prior to getting her up on the rotisserie.
I needed to get the steering column out of the way. Using the axiom that RTFM applies (Read the Fancy Manual) I followed the directions and applied a gear puller to the steering wheel, just like the pictures showed. Tore the shit outta the steering shaft and didn’t budge the wheel a bit….SO I pulled the steering box and column out with the steering wheel still attached.

I also finished cutting the braces to fit the door openings and have all the pieces for the bracing ready to weld in. She looks like she’s ready for liftoff, perhaps as soon as next Sunday.

    What did you get done?

  2. I delivered the 283 block crank and rods for Joes Elko to the machine shop.

Drove down to the Ozarks and helped my mom start packing for the move up here, brought a load of stuff back with me.

Moved the poly mill from the bed of the Pusher to the bed of Lumpy's parts hauler. Poured oil all over my driveway in the process.

Pressure washed the driveway (it needed it anyway) and cleaned and reorganized the garage.

All and all it seems like I got something accomlished although its nothing that really shows.

I installed a temporary seat in the Merc (KatzAzz) so we could take it to the James Dean events this coming weekend. My son, a friend and I installed wiring from EZ Wiring. I bought the 21 circuit so we can add stuff in the future, but it's kinda messy tieing all of the unused wires out of the way.

At least it starts and has lights using a 56 Chevy ignition and headlilght switch I had lying around. Even the fender lights left over from the guy that customized it in the 50's are working. :)

After mocking up the nailhead in the A frame it was readily apparent that things needed to be much stronger. I had planned to box the frame but decided a stronger x member was needed as well so ... trip to the metal store, cut and weld, new pieces allmost done. still need to taper the ends , mount them and tie them together at top and build a trans mount. Then weld nuts in the frame for the body mounts and box the rails.

My weekend starts on Wednesday and ends Sunday morning at 6AM, so I'll approach this from that angle.

Looked at a '50 Pontiac that a guy got screwed on and attempted to pass the screwing on to me, I passed. Who the hell goes from Ohio to the Northeast for something made out of metal in the 50s, anyway?

Stripped, masked, painted our bathroom. Unfortunately, some of the edges pulled up when the woman pulled the masking tape, so I get to do parts of this again. Had a few adventures in grey water plumbing, now the shower drains right, the sink drains right, and there's no constant puddle in the basement.

Tried to pull the gas tank outta the '58 Olds, but was stymied by the filler neck.

  7. Not nearly enough.... (see picture)

Just kidding. Worked on some upholstery for a 37 Ford truck. Took some pics of the process for a tech thread. Look for it in about 2 weeks.

Went down to the Los Alamitos Bay Saturday and rented a Kayak and paddled through the Naples (of Long Beach) canals.
I've done a lot of sailing in various yachts, paddled canoes, rowed dories etc. but this was my first time in a kayak.
    I'm hooked!

I built some brackets to hold my electric fan in place. The old way with the nylon ties was allowing the fan to move too much, creating pinholes in the radiator.

I yanked a flathead out of a '53 Ford. Complete with an automatic transmission (it'd make a good boat anchor for the Navy!) behind it. I got it broke loose too; not that it took much. It appears to be in pretty good condition, so it'll be the one I rebuild for the Model T this winter.

Not a lot for me either.
Picked up another banjo rear Saturday ($25 with 2 16" steelies still attached) and did some initial teardown on it.

Fixed the power windows in my (o/t) daily driver - after dealing with inoperable windows for 2 years, I finally found the proper switch!.

Had to work yesterday, well, didn't HAVE to, but I DO need the money.

  19. Went to the St Peter swap meet. Picked up a F1 box/column/wheel, a '64 impala automatic floor shifter and a Holley 2bbl. Total spent $102. Me thinks I did good. Spent the morning mocking the box and column into the '46 ford. Now its time to go to work.

The 15 international is behind door #2! It's double chain drive:) Does that count?

  23. Redid the rushed steering linkage in the 49. It was sloppy and binding a little, and the shaft I used was two week and felt springy. The new setup is smooth and rock solid. Cut down a crowbar to get a neat octagonal forged steel steeling shaft, hooked that up to a small tractor U-joint, and added a sealed roller bearing the the bottom of the shaft as support. Turns smooooth now and has much better feel. Its also bulletproof. Also aligned the passenger door better. Its still a little off though. The drivers door is warped and its as good as its going to get.

Also started redoing the radiator and front end mounts.

Started to chop my '51 chevy this weekend. From all the pics and tech I've read on doin this, figured it would be gravy, boy was I wrong. It's a little tougher than I thought, but it is coming along.
Never before have I done something so rewarding with a car. Tons of work left, but I'm pretty happy. Went from this...

Crap, I didnt get nothin done car related, shot the only weekend I had for a month (stupid job). Wifie informed me upon return from daily grind that we are repainting the house....lucky me (inside luckly, she's sick of "eternal beige") Plus add to that I had to study for my classes (night masters program...ugg they're smokin crack if they think I'm getting a PHD) and work on a really friggen long research process paper...the only thing I wanted to get done was put the new carb on the sled....I figured 1hr, and it didnt get done, not enough hours in the day. I did get a small chance to order the new spun aluminum fuel tank for the 49 (thanks HAMBers for saving me $500 in the contact to get a sand rail tank as opposed to the expensive moon tank)

RANT! OK first of all 1800 square feet doesnt look like a whole lot when you live in it but sure as hell is alot when you paint it, second of all who the hell came up with "eternal beige" there is nothing eternal about this beige, I picture gun metal or a dark cream as eternal (by the way is what I suggested...I lost) instead I got to apply "sandalwood" to my walls. SANDALWOOD? What the hell is the difference between "sandalwood" and "eternal beige" I'm a fairly smart bloke and the concept escapes me....oh well there's always next month.

    Rant off.....

BTW killer chop....post ye pics as you progress
