I have a 504 sun distributor tester and am trying to use it with a 1969 Ford points distributor. When I run the machine with everything hooked up the flashing arrows keep rotating around the hub and won’t stay fixed in one position. Am I doing something wrong? Even when I give it more rpm the arrows keep moving. Am I doing something wrong??

When that has happened to me every time it was that the chuck was slipping on the dist shaft. tighten it up and try it again

Thanks for your quick response. I retightened the chuck and the arrows continue to slowly rotate. I am at a loss.

adjust the height knob up and down just a little and try to get to the middle of the free play. that small diameter shaft on those fords is really hard to get a good grip on with the chuck, I would be tempted to use a small length of ford oil pump drive hex.... I have had this before and it was always chuck slippage

I recently had that happen to me with my Sun 404 and it was the chuck slipping just like Moriarity said.

Thanks for all the feedback. I believe I have an old oil pump drive rod that I can cut off to use. Will let everyone know tomorrow how it goes.

The oil pump drive shaft cut off worked!! Arrows are no constant.

Thanks for the suggestion as I couldn’t see any slippage but apparently there was some.
