Anyone use rocker shims and have any problems with a FE or MEL. I can search and find plenty of people talking about using shims but no one comes back and talks about if they did or not. Got .100-.120 preload. Debating on adjustable rockers or shims. Working on my sons 410 Edsel

  2. Shims are used on FEs to correct rocker arm-to-valve geometry, not to adjust lifter preload, although they may help with that. For lifter preload with non-adjustable rockers custom-length pushrods are used. If you have the typical ball-and-cup pushrods, they can be a bit expensive. Lykins Motorsport offers a non-adjustable roller rocker that uses ball ends only, much cheaper and easier to get.

We had to make some for a FE we built with some BBM heads and Harland Sharp rockers. This was to correct the rocker arm geometry.

Thank you sir. Think I better just spend the money and get adjustable rockers and rods. I’ll watch the video in a bit. Do I once and be done with it right!
