I understand gears and levers, but this electrical stuff always baffles me.

I need to put a kill switch on my son's Gokart. It has a 7hp? Briggs...an old one from the early 60's. Here is the only pic of the engine that I have...

Where do I break the circuit?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Neal

You ground the ignition. Being that old, I'm guessing it still has the points setup. If you want to wire up a switch, you might need to pull the flywheel to get to the points cover if there is no lose wire sticking out. It's usually a pretty small wire that you ground to the block, and it kills the motor. Post of the pic of the ignition system- I'm not used to working with stuff that old, points ****. Also, if you want somethin simple, a piece of sheetmal bolted to the block that you press down onto the top of the sparkplug also works.

wire it with a momentery switch to ground the plug. or use a piece of sheet metal.

It does have the sheetmetal spark plug kill "switch", but that is kinda hard for a kid to reach around and hit in a panic situation.

There is a small loose wire coming out of the flywheel cover? I will pull the cover off and see where it comes from and take a pic. Hopefully someone can figure it out from there.

    Thanks,

    Neal

Before you pull the cover, just fireitup and ground that wire! If it stops running, that's it, and I can't think what else it could be. Just extend it to a switch that grounds it.
