I just came across another source for wide whites. I know nothing about them, have no connection to them, but since there seems to be a lot of discontent with more common vendors, I thought I'd throw this out for anyone shopping for new tahrs... kontiotyres.com It appears the company is based in Finland, but distributed worldwide. A**** the U.S. dealers are: Summit, Speedway and Priority Tires. Good luck!
Designed in Finland made in china. The headquarter is in Nokia Finland but they got nothing to do with the old Nokian tyre company, but they are kind of confusing they using the Nokia name Haven´t heard anyone driving on then, but they seems to sell a lot of them, time will tell
Was looking at my 7.50 x 16 Auburn Deluxe Radials on my 5W today and on the sidewall in a reasonable sized letters it said "Designed in USA". Had to get a torch and search for the very small letters which said " Made in Thailand" Had planned to run Excelsior radials but our Aussie supplier was unable to get them so I had to take the Auburns instead.
I know that they put the cheap tires on new vehicles when you buy them but my wife’s new GMC has a set of Hankooks on it and I’m not impressed. I’m sticking with Coker IMHO. Billy
I've got no dog (or opinion) in this hunt, but I'm glad my post started a discussion so HAMBers get some feedback on them!
These are getting popular here in the UK, both for 1950's UK cars like Ford Zodiac's and Vauxhall Cresta's etc., that had whitewall options when new, plus a lot of owners of '40's and 50's era American cars. A mate of mine has fitted them to both his '54 Caddy Eldorado ragtops. One of his mates has a '56 Chrysler Imperial that runs these tyres as well. All report good things about them.
