I've had my 50 Merc stored in my garage for 12 years and I finally found my round tuit and got it out. There is a ton of odds and ends that need attention and one is an oil leak from around the shift levers on the transmission. I got the seals and when I started to change them out I found what looks like rivets holding the levers on the shift shafts. Before I go grinding the head off something I will regret later I thought I'd ask, are these really rivets I need to remove or am I missing something? Your advise would be appreciated.

How’s it going. I also a have a 50 merc with stock running gear. I would recommend theflatspot.com , they have the most Flathead and early trans info that I have found. They have links to the factory manuals you need. Best of luck

Check with Mac VanPelt at vanpeltsales.com. He literally wrote the book on Ford transmissions and he's got the parts as well. theflatspot.com has a lot of information but be warned of the owner's honesty. Several here have had reason to regret dealing with him.

Bishko Books Piqua Ohio 45356-3429 49 50 51 Over Haul Manual. It was around 50 dollars. I got it some years ago. It is worth it . It is a original factory manual. Good Luck. Slim39
