When we moved here, there were F100s in fields... '46-'48s sitting, much to choose from! I bought 2 '27s, a tub and a roadster pickup, $550. Place is full of idiots, nobody building. Yep. Idiots one day seemed to all gang up and JUNK everything! Woe is me... Lucky I got those '27s!
blew it apart yesterday and spent the whole afternoon welding up cracks and holes and tweeking. 1/4s back on for good. tomorow fit up the back panel and decide on some tail lights. then fit trunklid . im sure thinking about going real redneck hillbilly style and useing barn door hinges on the trunk lid. what yall think about that?
I think that would be a terrible mistake, that would be right in place on a rat rod but not on a hotrod!
well shes gona be prity ratty allready. who has any good wierd ideas for tail lights? ive got a ton of stuff to choose from leaning towards a set of 1958 chev station wagon tail lights at the moment.
took me a long long time to get this far. these poor 1/4s been bent and twisted every which way x 10. wow it was a fight. still far from perfect. trunk lid has a tweek in it still have to get that sorted. progress is progress tho i made my choice on tail lights anyways
This thread fell in my lap this morning, cooler than a prairie snowfall. Nice work, you need to post some of this over on the Canadian bacon thread. I am going to subscribe cause it might help move along with some of my piles.
i wanted something old, but not something everyone has or does. not sure if i hit the mark or not. they were not easy to find, and i have had them on the shelf a while. next is a trunk lid hold down. have to figure something as factory one isnt gona work
To mount your trunk lid, the 46 to 48 ford use this for a hinge, nice and simple, but still looks like something. You likely could find something similar on an old fridge or ice chest. Original ones would not be so shiny.
found time for a bit more work today. built a brace to go under the cross piece thay the trunk lid runs into. no press so did it the old fashioned way cut bend weld. compound curves are fun. going to bolt in a brace and an X to the sub frame and tie it together, use that as a header to separate the pass section from the trunk
fueltank box built and inplace. used a 12 -15 gallon boat tank. started building the header to separate the trunk area from passenger section. got a bunch more tin fabbing and braceing to do at the back yet but comeing along
well a bit more got done today. havent had to much time to work on things. some gauges in , ignition and starter button all wired in and tested. actually flashed it up today and made some boom. made me feel good anyways. next is to fab up something for the top of the 1/4s to strengthen it and bring it up to the height of the doors . any ideas?
trunk lid hinges on today and hole drilled for prop rod . some might not like the barn door hinges but i think they fit the job prity good
If I lived in an area where I could stroll out into virtually any field or gully and scrape together enough vintage tin to build hot rods I'd be busier than a one legged man at an asskicking contest!! There is usually a wooden combing from factory around that area...semi round on the backside flat on top...which is what they nailed the top skins to for Dr.'s/Business coupes Can't wait to see what you do with the Pontiac roadster next month! Lol
yes im going to bend some 2-1/2" tubeing i think to go around the top and weld it in. the top of the 1/4s were not cut uniformly so there will be lotsa trial and error. i did cut off the tops of the B pillars today and remove my squareing frame. startin to look more like a car every days. i havent decided if im going to knotch the window frame and tilt it or leave it. kinda likein this look as is
Looks awesome! I see it with the visor on, about a 4" top chop, new chopped door tops and I gotta say I've always liked the idea of a full folding roof on one of these...like a 3 window convertable
today was final fit up on trunk lid and add a handle. havent figured out a latch yet. it looks prity good compared to what it looked like to begin with. far from perfect but im happy enough. gotta weld shut the rumble seat latch hole yet to, but think ill leave the bullet holes haha. built the plywood header for the divider between the trunk and pass cabin. trimming and screwing it inplace tomorow
Just found this this morning. I killer speedster and now what looks like a sport coupe? Adding this to the list of threads to catch up on!
not much done this last few days. wireing strung for tail lights. divider panel finished. built a vent line for the fuel tank. few small things. next week we tackle the tops of the 1/4s to the B pillars. gotta fab up something in there. then maybe even some seats !
well a bit more fabing and building. built the braceing for the B pillers to strengthen them up. more cut cut cut bending. turned out good and strong so im happy. i didnt bother grindin off the welds and that will all get hidden. now to fancy up the tops with something. not sure what ill use there. seat fitting tomorow!!
