97% sure I'm keeping my 32 tank and frame intact. Just looking for inspiration. Ive heard the soggy diaper bull before so save your negativity for a feature thread. 28/29 fenderless prefered. Thanks .

I run a 32 tank on my Improved A coupe, took a bit of stuffing around to make it look like it was meant to be there. Cant help with an early roadster though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm kind of curious if I need to cut into my panel below the deck lid. Right now it looks really close but I still need to modify my cowl to fit the frame. Cowl goes down : trunk goes up. I hope enough.

I removed the sub rail and sectioned the panel about an inch. Then tweaked the rails to tuck the tank where I wanted it. I think I shortened the rails about 10mm to tuck the tank in like a 32 does. I can get a better pic if needed.

Here are Pics of my 29 roadster on 32 rails with the gas tank out back. I like the way it looks, and you rarely see it. This had been in the plans since the beginning stages of building this car, just because space is such a premium in the trunk of a roadster. This is a fibergl*** body, so when we set the body on the frame with the tank we just cut the bottom of the body above the tank out to match the contour of the tank and moved the body line up to compensate for the difference. I will be doing the same thin on my 31 Tudor on 32 rails once the body gets on the frame this summer.

there is a filler piece on a steel body that is easily removed but I think I will have to trim it up a little bit more. thanks for pictures Jason.

Since you already have the rear most part of the sub-rail removed on the bottom edge, I'd see about removing the panel below the deck lid and fitting the gas tank to the frame, then fit the sub-rail to fit around the tank, then shorten the panel to fit the new sub-rail location. it would look like it was always supposed to be that way then. That's a real nice looking roadster body too!

that's a great idea. I plan on making my own "steadfast" type subrails back there so having the extra room to work will make it worth the effort as well. im pretty sure its just bolts.

Are you going to pie cut the cowl to make the gap disappear or stretch the cowl out over the frame?
You rarely see them cut, looks cleaner. Just my two cents.
I really like the idea of the nice original style 32 tank in your car.

yes i'm going to cut it . it will actually even help the tank fit better. the cowl width looks good when the p/o made the toe boards and front sub frame he must have widened it some as it is only about 1/2" on each side maybe less . no real need to pinch the frame in my opinion.

Joe Rosales "War Baby" has a very nice treatment of this particular modification. See his current build thread here on the HAMB.

That looks really good. I like how he moved it all up rather than hacking it off. Thank you for the reply

i returned to this thread to see how he did the corners after getting mine mocked up. I can see he hasn't finished yet either. I think I will run a fabricated subframe part forward right into the fender well . that area of my quarter panels is really rough anyhow.

that's a nice example too. he must have a bit of a channel as the panel below deck lid seems shorter than mine. thanks for posting

Body and rear panel was cut and raised up. All the frame is all stock , no channeling done.
